Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

There's always context. For example, Trump's insistence on calling it the "China virus." Most people who do not intend to be racist, when informed that something they said can be or has been interpreted as racist, will stop saying it. Trump instead did the opposite, going so far as to INSERT it into a speech that did not originally include it.

Photo of Trump's notes shows 'Chinese' virus written over 'coronavirus'

Calling the Coronavirus the Chinese Virus is not racist. It could be argued it’s insensitive but not racist.

You conveniently ignore all context for your double standard but I get it. It's hard to recognize your own biases.

And what contextual evidence do you have to suggest that Biden, when given a golden opportunity to directly accuse Trump of a specific act of racism/xenophobia, is going to be ambiguous or mealy-mouthed about it?

You assume they're going to be principled. One thing I've learned from Trumpers is that for them principles are for losers. It's about power, not consistent, principled positions. If the literal interpretation is favorable to them, that's what Trump meant. If the implied meaning is favorable, that's the one they'll go with.

You are a beacon of principle.....

Whatever you wanna call it--racist, xenophobic, insensitive--it was called to his attention and instead of changing courses he increased his propensity to call it that, all the while hate crimes in connection with the virus were taking place across the nation against persons of Asian ancestry.

I don't see how calling something Chinese is racist. It's a country. People say they hate Americans all the time. Maybe China should stop genociding other people if they don't want to be so monoethnic.

Yeah, especially in these times - gotta expect that not all 330 million of us have the same motivations or see the same value in various activities. So long as it's not messing with anyone; do what you gotta do.

I dont need to do that. So why would you.

Did an Antifa thug hit one with a bike lock or something?

"I'm tired of all these rich Jews on the school board."

Hey, I'm not being racist, just pointing out they're wealthy and trace their ancestry to the middle east. Sound plausible?

So what?? Because you guys enjoy being the speech police (and using the 2019 word of the year xenophobic) he should cease to call it that?

It’s a statement of fact. It came from China.

Since you didn’t actually SAY it, let me ask you: are you laying at Trump’s feet hate crimes committed against Chinese people?

Just this weekend Stew and others defended Gropin Joe saying "Rs will put yall back in chains" and "poor kids are just as talented as white kids".
....but yeah....no racism there. No dog whistle.

Is that how it went? As I recall I was musing on how one might spin the "back in chains remark", which I didn't even attempt until I heard the full context which was refering to economic chains. I did make a comparison to Trump's suggesting that blacks had nothing to lose.

Pretty much the same tone with the "talented white kids", which I think everyone would agree, if they were being honest, was a gaffe.

If you took any of that as a serious defense, that's one thing, but I think you are misrepresenting the exchanges.

It comes across as ignorance.
