Nope. Obviously not a golfer. Level of competition during the eras, differences in equipment, as well as the number of second place finishes in addition to wins in the majors tell a different story. The golf world said the same thing about Nicklaus in his prime. Nicklaus was a bomber as well. His iron play far surpassed Tiger's. Tiger is a better putter and chipping around the green. Jack had serious eye problems and in his late 30's and 40's had no depth perception - which made the Masters win at age 46 even more phenomenal. He did not have the advantages of LASIK eye surgery multiple times like Tiger has - it did not exist. Most of the time he had to be told by his caddie where the shot ended up. Totally dependent on the caddie for distances. Just like Tiger did after him, he made serious modifications in his swing to fit his physical condition multiple times. Jack had serious left hip issues that affected his swing and his back in his early 20's. His back was so bad he took many cortisone injections as a 19 year old. Tiger has serious neck and knee problems that affected him in a similar way.

Look at the 82 wins. How many are concentrated into a handful of tournaments/courses. Buick Invitational, Firestone/Bridgestone, Torey Pines tourneys, etc. Because of his success in the majors, Tiger was able to refine his schedule to playing courses his game fit more so than any player during his era. It helped to have Nike bankrolling his life from the beginning. Nicklaus had to create his own brands and business interests, which took away practice and playing time. There were no big sponsor contracts back then. The Golden Bear on his cap was his creation of his own brand.

I can go with best of his era, but no way Tiger is the goat. Too many technological and other advantages in each succeeding era to declare it for any player.

I still think Tiger might be the best ever (I’ll withhold judgment until he retires), but it might be one of the toughest calls in sports.

Besides WR's, who tf does Florida have that will beat us this upcoming season?

Offense
Kyle Trask - QB
Damien Pierce - RB
Trevon Grimes - WR
Jacob Copeland - WR
Kadarius Toney - WR
Kyle Pitts - TE
Their O-line will be alright

Defense
Zach Carter - DL
Dunlap Jr - DL
Campbell - DL
Cox Jr. - Buck
Houston - ILB
Miller - ILB
Wilson - Star
Jaydon Hill/ Kaiir Elam - CB
Dean - CB
Stiner - S
Stewart - S

I don't see a strong team. Prove me wrong.
The proof is that someone says this every year.

They have nothing. They lost a ton. They don’t have anyone that scares me.

And then they play the game.

Nah. These are a lot of excuses. Tiger is the goat.

He has had multiple injuries and surgeries and has missed entire seasons. He won the Masters last year.
Cry me a river. Fired multiple people that couldn’t make him better. Missed countless cuts. Nicklaus won the Masters well after his prime...means the same.

I’m going to respond to this, but I have to sign off for a bit to hang some sheetrock. Really enjoyed the discussion, y’all. Makes these quarantine days fly by.

Yeah, I have got to go pick the grandson up and take him out in the woods to ride his 4-wheeler before he starts tearing his mom's house apart.

WBO, I don't know where you're from or what town you reside, but growing up and being from Lebanon, I have lots of memories and several friends and acqaintances who attended CHMA back in the day. That said, I do have a question for you. Were you a cadet when the Allman brothers attended and do you know if the story of what they supposedly did re: a certain "package" sent to the school when they decided they weren't going back is true?

The Allman brothers were gone before I got there. I believe they were there one year in the mid-60's, I got there in fall of '68. There really wasn't much talk about them except when the first one died. So don't know anything about a package.

Going there was a strong formative experience for me especially since my father had died the year before. I was at a reunion a few years back when an alum returned. He was originally from Central America and was recruited into the CIA after graduation. They later installed him as the Manager of the Havana Hiton shortly before Castro took over (they apparently had figured out what was going to happen) and he was subsequently arrested and imprisioned for over 20 years in horrific circumstances. He was eventually repatriated to the US. His best friend from Heights had also been in CIA and they reestablished their friendship. After 10 years of freedom he found out he had terminal cancer and his friend asked him if there was anything he could do and this man who gave so much to his adopted country said he just wanted to see Castle Height one more time, so they came to the annual homecoming we have every year on the old campus. After the friend told us that story, Manny stands up, clearly in pain and says "Everything I am, everything I have been and everything I ever will be I owe to Castle Heights." A lot of grown men were crying like babies.
