Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

The current “death rate” (or whatever you want to call death/confirmed cases) is exactly the same for NY as for the country as a whole.
NY and NJ have over half the deaths of the entire country. Do you guys have half the population?

Tracking Covid-19 cases in the US

NY is running at 2% mortality rate, virtually the same as the entire country. According to the link above 8 fatalities per 100,000 (per capita), which is far above any other state. The closest would be Louisiana at 5 per and then New Jersey at 3 per. The greater testing should actually work in your state's number benefit because there would be more positives that live to go against those that succumbed thereby lowering the death rate. The deaths per capita numbers say otherwise.

Also, 25% of all people tested in the US have been from NY/NJ. So, more testing, more cases.

If you had bothered to read, the Dr was Obama's as well:

"but even top aides to former President Barack Obama were quick to praise Dr. Jackson, who also served as the White House physician to Mr. Obama.

“Dr. Jackson is a phenomenal doctor and a really great guy,” Dan Pfeiffer, Mr. Obama’s senior adviser, posted Tuesday on Twitter. “He and his team took great care of all of us for many years.”

Inside today's numbers NY dropped to 208 deaths. Down from 279 yesterday. Does that mean anything? Doubtful. Just looking for some rays of sunshine.

I'm sure when Biden is president, his WH physician will claim he had a "perfect score" too.

Is this true? There is no way that they gave a sitting president the MoCa, is there?

Here is a sample question:

In this task you are supposed to say aloud the names of three animals pictured. If you say, "Lion, Rhino, Camel." Well, that is a perfect score.

Super Thursday might have an issue there.

So...assuming somebody got 2 out of 3, is that good?

Asking for a friend.

I just think he'd lie for any of them... I didn't believe it when he said Trump was 6'3" 239lbs, and I''m not inclined to believe he'd report anything that he was told not to.

Yeah, with a 4-14 day onset of symptoms time frame, and a 10-21 day lethality timeline, you've gotta look at the 21-30 day average, and then wait for that curve to break downwards. Not definitive, but at least a sign that the overall curve might be starting to flatten out.

I'm sure there are those here who are a lot better at that sort of thing than I am, but that is kinda where I'm looking. I'm wrong a lot, and I'm well aware of the grim predictions coming from seemingly every corner, but somehow I still believe that we will get ahead of this thing, and in the end it won't be nearly as bad here as it might be in other countries.

Or so I hope.

Chinese Backed Company Raids Australia’s Medical Supplies, Ships Them Back to China

A property giant known as The Greenland Group, which is majority owned by the Chinese government, raided Australia’s supply of masks, hand sanitizer, antibacterial wipes and other essential medical supplies and shipped them back to China.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, a whistleblower within the company came forward and revealed the real-estate giant has essentially drained Australia of its necessary anti-coronavirus equipment:

“Basically all employees, the majority of whom are Chinese, were asked to source whatever medical supplies they could,” one company insider told the Herald. This exercise went on for weeks through January and February, he said.

The entire accounts department, contract managers, the human resources team and even receptionists were sent on a mission to find bulk supplies of surgical masks, thermometers, antibacterial wipes, hand sanitisers, gloves and Panadol.

“There were numerous requests from the HR manager and even our direct reporting line [which] prioritised the assisting of the company in gathering these supplies over other work activities,” said the source. The entire accounts department were absent for days as they were out purchasing supplies, he said.

When questioned by the Herald, the Greenland Group issued a statement saying it “felt compelled … to assist in efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus, which had caused a shortage of crucial medical supplies in China.”

The Herald reported that while the shipping of the materials was legitimate, these were the very items that Australia has been in short supply of for citizens and health professionals alike.

If China is using their foreign-based corporations to raid other countries for medical supplies to be shipped back to China then this should raise quite a few eyebrows about China’s claims of having the virus under control.

I thought the flu kills 20,000 to 60,000 in the US alone. If anything this chart might be underselling the difference

Also have to note it is Jan thru now. Flu is winding down. But you'd theoretically add another 120,000 perhaps when Oct thru December 2020 comes around. So you're at 240,000 for the year.

I see your point with the numbers. However, my point is simply that we keep finding “numbers” to reassure ourselves that it’s not that bad “here.” A month ago we compared the US to China, and then 2 weeks ago we compared US to Italy. Now we’re comparing state to state “numbers.” Whether you see it in the numbers or not, it’s coming. It may not be as bad as the 140-200k they were saying today. But the numbers are gonna keep getting higher and keep getting closer to home.

Can't deny that. I just feel for New York. Such a great cosmopolitan town now being changed because of this virus. It's easier to "socially distance" one self elsewhere, but New York isn't built that way.

It's sad, man.

Interesting. Instead of agreeing that declining numbers in NY is a good thing, you attack Trump. It's almost like you don't want the numbers going down.
