Rent strike idea gaining steam during coronavirus crisis

There’s a reason Sherman tanks were known as Ronson’s or Zippo’s because they lit the first time every time. German tanks rarely burned.

I watched a documentary years ago on some German WWII tankers. They said they weren't allowed out of their tanks in combat unless they were on fire.

One of them said in the battle of the bulge his crew in a panther had a tread blown and their gun got knocked out. After an hour the americans stopped shooting, figuring it was actually dead. They didnt get out until the next day when the german recovery crews caught up.

Cant imagine sitting in a metal box listening to you getting shot with nothing to do.

It's interesting how some people believe hardships are just not their problem and someone else should save them.

He's 100% correct of course, but the attitude among his tenants is 100% a consequence of bailouts. That sentiment follows bailouts like day follows night. They see it as government being right there to help out large, politically-connected, "important" businesses in times of need, while little peons like them are left to flap in the wind.

The celebrities trying to stay relevant during this whole thing is super cringe worthy. I wonder if they have seen their perceived public value waft away like a fart in the wind? The late night shows..super cringe.

I could see it if prices have dropped from where they were a few months ago and if they were planning to rent it out. Some people will buy stuff sight unseen, pandemic or not.

If they're buying it as their personal residence, agreed, that's completely nuts.

Prices aren’t really dropping. She said anything sub $250k in desirable areas is getting multiple offers. People moving for school are going to buy a house one way or another. Title companies are going to become the bottleneck as most are only taking one transaction per hour so they can disinfect and keep people apart.

In retrospect China's early handling looks awful. But most of us here would have scoffed at locking down a city of several million over just a few dozen cases just a month ago. No way that the USA would have done so nearly as quickly as China did. We didn't act until we saw the carnage in Italy.

They didnt shut things down until it had spread. We were on here cursing them for not shutting down their air flights long after it had gotten bad.

They had to have their Lunar new year celebrations. Its widely believed that's how it spread so much. Many went home to China, caught it, came back to wherever, and then spread it.

I agree. I must be missing something because diesel is not as explosive as gasoline. Not sure if that is due to flash point or fire point . I actually spent a short time as a pipeline operator many years ago and would have to perform hourly tests on flash points and expansion calculations as fuel flowed to company terminals. We had a 12" and 8" lines running from Atlanta tank farm to Nashville. Unfortunately I have forgotten a lot.

Edit: Just looked it up. It is flammability and vapor.

That's because diesel is much less flammable than gasoline. In a car, it takes intense pressure or sustained flame to ignite diesel. On the other hand, if you toss a match into a pool of gasoline, it won't even touch the surface — it ignites the vapors above the surface.

I'm in awe that people think the gov't should have the right to tell property owners that (a) they have no right to the financial benefit of renting their property, and (b) they must allow someone else to occupy said property. I'm not joking. What has this nation come to?
