Many? How many? How many have committed war crimes? Give me a number. Then give me that number in comparison to those that are serving and the millions that have served.

Ridiculous statement. I'm going to assume you have never donned a military uniform. If you have, that makes your statement even more absurd.

I believe you would be very surprised how many Americans will "just follow orders".

Google the "Milgram Experiment", it will frighten you and open your eyes.

Well it seems like all the people who were saying the pandemic was a media hysteria event stirred up to sell newspapers have dropped that line of attack (what happened to all the people saying the numbers are made up and this isn't any more serious than the regular flu) and now they are jumping on individual governors not necessarily because of they way don't like the way they've responded, just because you don't like the party they represent. Face it, you guys haven't wanted to deal with reality since the beginning of this crisis. You just want to hate.

I just don't understand that. Thanks to my time in the military I was forced to interact with people of all ethnicities, all religions and all political affiliations. Except in the most extreme cases, I found we all loved America. We may have had different beliefs about how the government should be run and what policies should be advanced, but we loved the country. It made me love America even more because we could legitimately disagree on a number of issues but still come together on the big one.

Life is complex. Maybe that's it, maybe too many people feel overwhelmed and want simplicity or at least simple answers. Maybe they hate change (I'm sorry but the only constant is change.)

No one person or party has all the answers. I make sure every day I read through the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. I want to know what the alternatives are. I see things in both papers that I agree with and disagree with. If you only listen to or read those stories you agree with, then you're leading a narrow uninformed life.

What I know is we are all different in a complex world. I know I attend church but I don't want prayer in the schools (tell me whose prayers we're going to use). I can get tears in my eyes looking at an American flag in a strong wind, but I don't believe you should be forced to say the Pledge of Allegiance. I own several guns, probably way more than average but I don't have a problem with background checks or limitations on assault weapons. But I don't hate or denigrate anyone who disagrees with me on those things.

Some of you guys just spew hate at anyone that disagrees with you. Now I admit I have a hard time with people who ignore reality and make up their own facts or who deny legitimate science, but I'm willing to engage and try to state where I'm getting my facts from. Unfortunately there are people who just say that if you disagree with me you're evil.

Where does that get us as a country? There's no doubt that much of this is conflict stirred up by our adversaries in the world. With the rise in the internet there are false flag operations that support and advance positions designed to divide and inflame. Do you really not think an old KGB officer like Putin isn't doing that? But too many of us are willing to take those positions and run with them and say vile and divisive things about a fellow American just because she wants to pay teachers more or he wants to stop abortion, or vice versa.

I love these forums because of the passion of Vol fans for the Big Orange. But the posters that just want to hate and use the language of hate, I can do without you.

Stopped reading after the first paragraph, tldr, but everyone who I heard saying the media is causing hysteria and the projected numbers were overblown are still saying the same thing. Seems you're twisting things people have said. Nobody said this wasn't a big deal.

None of those states will secede. They are all so broke they are heavily dependent on massive federal funding. If anything, it would be middle America that secedes if a far left government gains control of the branches of government and tries eliminating the electoral college (as they began screaming for after they lost the 2016 election), among other things. Give control of the presidential election to NY and Cali, and there would be no reason for middle America to remain in the Union.
Going by net federal dollars? Those 3 states are a bit mixed. Only 10 states put in more than they get back:
#50 Connecticut
New Jersey
Mass
NY
ND
Illinois
NH
Washington
Nebraska
#41 Colorado

Next is #40 California at basically breakeven (+$12/resident).

Oregon is halfway down at #24 (+2,400/resident).

And somehow #1 is the prosperous state of Virginia. They get back 10k+ more per resident in federal benefits than they put in. How did that happen? 😂

Virginia has lots of military bases. I think there are like 125k active duty military stationed there. That’s all federal spending.

This is old, but it will give you an estimate. Coronavirus Age, Sex, Demographics (COVID-19) - Worldometer

AGE DEATH RATE all cases
80+ years old 14.8%
70-79 years old 8.0%
60-69 years old 3.6%
50-59 years old 1.3%
40-49 years old 0.4%
30-39 years old 0.2%
20-29 years old 0.2%
10-19 years old 0.2%
0-9 years old no fatalities
I'm sorry that's not what I mean. It should add up to 100. These numbers are the percentage of all cases in each range that are fatal. In looking for what percentage of total deaths from the virus are, for example, 70 or older.

Which strongly suggests that the large number of us former soldiers and marines out here could still be an effective fighting force with our lowly AR15s...with Eotech holo sights, swing over magnifiers, and the 20 other accessories the Army frowned on.
No command and control. You would have no cohesive teams and no training to fight together.

Stanford Prison Experiment too. There was a decent movie made after it a few years ago.

My point wasn't to knock our federal government, but rather to counter the argument that somehow a constitutional republic is even remotely similar to a a true authoritarian government. The states still have powers as guaranteed by the Constitution, we still have a system of checks and balances, and each state still has representation in Congress.
Absolutely
