Gun control debate (merged)

If you have to ask that question you obviously wouldn't even begin to understand the logical answer. You just go ahead and stay unarmed and there is absolutely nothing wrong that, plus it'll undoubtably make the rest of us safer.
Are you saying you would be afraid or less safe if I carried a gun?

You would be better off carrying a first aid kit if being prepared is your justification. Just what does a gun prepare you for? Insert Fear response here.
Why keep a first aid kit? A spare tire in the trunk? A fire extinguisher in the house? What do those things prepare you for? Insert Fear response here.

As much as we all wish, we do not live in an ideal world. There are criminals, rapists, racists, etc that act on their own with bad intentions towards people that have no reason to deserve it. That much is undeniable. It's out there. Chances are one will never need to use a gun, but you cannot control what others around you do.

If you dont mind me asking how do you store them?

As I noted last night my car doesnt have anywhere to lock it up right now.
Sorry I was talking about the first aid kits. For my gun I have a little place tucked under my front seat and secured with a magnet I found online. For longer storage there's a way to fold down the back seat but it's not that easy to access

I have one of those in both our cars as well. I'm not in fear
I have first aid kits in our vehicles, and tools in case of breaking down. I also carry a hammer in our vehicles, 2 in my wife's car. Saw something a few years ago about a car flipping and landing in a way where they were trapped. They happened to have a hammer, and busted a window to escape. I don't drive around in fear of being in that spot, but it is possible.

Gotcha. Yeah I have basic first aid too.

I also have a cut tool in case we need to get one of the boys out of their belts. This isn't about fear it's about being prepared for all situations

I'm sure I could but I still don't want to have to. If I feel like my life is at stake every time I walk out the door, then there is something wrong with society or with me.

I think your thought process is conflating two realities. If you really want to nail it down on the realities you wouldn't even need to walk out the door to "fear" society.

Murder of South Mississippi teen revealed by doorbell camera, says family
Sheriff: Man murdered in Chambers Co. home
Search warrant: Two people found dead in Roanoke home Sunday were murdered

etc. Does this, and a hell of a lot more other crimes against people you know are happening literally every day, mean there is "something wrong with society"? On balance I'm not sure, we are a nation of well over 300 million people after all and far, far more people are good than bad. Still, do you just ignore that the bad is out there?

Do you lock your doors? Why? If there's a knock at the door do you just fling the door open or vet who it might be? If so, why? Do you lock your car doors? Why? Setting aside the legal mandate about wearing seat belts would you use them anyway? Why? Are you expecting to have an accident where doing so might save your life or are you just hedging against the possibility?

Whether you're actively aware of it or not even the most mundane of days will have you balancing actions vs possible negative outcomes. We all do. The decision to carry a firearm is not one jot more than adding another hedge against the possibility of drawing one of the unlucky numbers in life's lottery. Some recent examples of that hedge paying dividends.

I can't even guess how many stories like these I've posted just in this thread alone. It's going on out there every...single...day. What you choose to do (or not do) regarding the realities of the world we live in are entirely up to you. Many choose to carry. It's just that simple.

Yes and wipes for my kids. The TP is in the car kit because with kids you just never know. We're rarely without wipes or some way to sanitize hands
Our youngest is 13. We still use and carry wipes. Love those things.

Times like this they should have open season on almost everything.

This is an interesting observation I've discussed with others. Could/should certain poaching regulations be suspended? (at least in certain areas for certain species) If not could there be some "still illegal but not charging for now" approach. Were I a game warden right now I might have a hard time running in a guy taking out a deer to feed his family under the current circumstances.

Enhanced permit holder and I never leave home without them. One of the keys to carry is being comfortable with the location of your holster so you don’t fidget with it.
My suggestion to anyone thinking about it but unsure is find a cell phone holder/holster and drop some rolled coins in it, clip that on your belt while hanging around the house and discover how your body moves in relation to that new bulk. Move it around your belt to find the spot where you no longer really notice it and can access it with ease. That’s your carry spot.
Due to a physical limitation mine turned out to be a canted cross draw on my hip. I don’t notice it there and I’m comfortable with that draw having practiced for no muzzle sweeping using minimal noticeable movement.

I would add that anyone who carries should invest in a high quality holster, preferably kydex. It will make whatever you carry more comfortable and concealable.

Tuffy makes lock boxes for a wide range of vehicles, that's what i have in my jeep in case i need to leave my firearm in it. They're not cheap though.

Why would I need a first aid kit when I have 911 and NGV ? Neither of two great things will prevent the injury , they only stop the bleeding after the fact . Here’s a simple , logical example even you can follow .. if you are coming at me with the intent of doing harm and I pull out my brand new , white box that says first aid on it , besides smiling at me , it’s not going to change your mind . Now same scenario, switch that first aid box with a 9mm and visual red dot laser that you see coming out of the end just below that hole , and resting dead center of your chest . You will stop smiling and start thinking .
