Coronavirus (No politics)

Your assertion on the first example is patently absurd. What if the customer is blind our can't read? Posting a notice won't allow everyone to make an informed decision. Even if that was reasonable(it's not) It's s public health issue and that is well within the government's jurisdiction.

On the second, they are perfectly analogous. Both can result on the death of employees or customers as a direct result of staying open in defiance of a mandated closure. The fact that someone who dies of coronavirus happens after more time is irrelevant.
Couldnt you say that during flu season?

In this case the legality of a mandated closure is what is up for debate. Cant use that as a point when that's the contention. lol

I'm sorry that you hate the free market and freedom of association.

Ignore law enforcement? Law enforcement does not have the right to prevent people from earning a living so yeah, everyone should ignore law enforcement and the politicians who issue these stupid edicts. Nobody is forcing employees to come to work or customers to patronize an establishment so the only people put in "danger" are the ones willing to accept it.

Amendment 1

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
If a law enforcement officer instructs the clerk to close in accordance with a government mandated closure, and the clerk does not comply, they are violating a lawful order and can be arrested. It's no diffrent that refusing to get out of your car during a stop. If the executives want the stores to stay open, they should come work the desk themselves and risk arrest. Expecting front line employees to face down law enforcement in thier stead or lose thier job in a situation like this is flat out despicable.

The right to peaceable assembly refers to public spaces and the right to protest. It does not protect private businesses ability to stay open, to my knowledge. Can you give an example of anytime that s court has ruled that way? I couldn't find any in an admittedly quick search.

I am waiting and hoping law enforcement starts arresting people trying to earn a living.

I am conservative and have no issue with what some areas are having to do. Just wait until it hits home.

I went to work this week but limited my exposure in many ways. I normally see a lot of people each week. Worked, went home, was out one day for lunch and went to a few stores for food, etc. However, I found out two of my colleagues had dinner with a friend last week, and that friend later found out he had previously been exposed to someone who tested positive. There you go.

I’m of the age that I can handle it, but I haven’t seen my parents in almost a week and can’t help them with anything. I have 4 kids at home. To those complaining, you have to show sympathy to others. Not everyone understands how this could spread.

It sucks for small businesses. But it is a public safety issue. So why don’t you go order out at a local restaurant every night? The timing of this could impact our healthcare system. By the way, the government is not going to be any closer to a socialist society than before. That’s nonsense to me. JMO.

What was all that panic rumor stuff coming out of China about lung transplants then? Just that, panic rumor BS?
Man there are panic rumors getting blasted all over the place even here in the US.

A totally normal shipment of humvees out of repair/factory by train was recorded by some rube on twitter and used as evidence that 'THE NATIONAL GUARD IS ON THE MOVE!'.

I'm still trying to process the peds report I linked that showed that fever was present in less than half of the kids diagnosed. That's much different than the usual presentation in adults (where fever is the most universal symptom) and would make temperature screening fairly useless.

That's the problem. Why, in the areas doing this stuff, are restaurants allowed to stay open (even limited) and others threatened with police action? To be blunt, it's government idiocy.

Word is the DOE has voiced displeasure and probably gonna shut stuff down soon.

I’m not giddy about the idea of a furlough, but at this point so much of the field and craft workers continuing to report as normal just seems strange.

Especially considering the vast majority of all but ground level supervision has been sent to work from home.

The cleanup contractor claims there’s no intention from DOE to shut operations, but we’ll see. I don’t buy that they said business as normal.

I’m interested to see how it shakes out. My guess is we’ll be in on Monday and maybe Tuesday to close up most of the projects and get them into a safe shutdown. Skeleton crew will be left.

Saw that. Laughed out loud.

Doesn’t really work that way.

WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, 9/11 all happened and somehow football continued on and mattered again. I started the thread to get thinking caps installed as what is likely to occur is a hodgepodge of qualifications for high school graduation to occur. Some state boards may take the bull by the horns and grant a waiver that kids graduate as is where is. Others may leave it up to individual counties or school systems to decide for themselves. They may require students to attend classes May thru August graduating on Labor Day, just all sorts of challenges may be out there for incoming freshman to actually get on campus this year and contribute. That was my hope where the discussion would occur.

The Chinese let the virus run free and wide open for almost a month before responding and ended up with less than 100,000 cases recorded and certainly nothing close to 1 million dead. To suggest the USA will end up with millions of dead is irresponsibie and unecessarily alarming at this point IMO as we responded very early. Now is the time for rationality not hysteria.

OK, wait a minute. They just reported that as many as 20 million Americans could be infected and not know it. Well if that’s the case, then the infection mortality rate is less than the flu. So which is it? You can’t have it both ways. These are the scare tactics being used but they put everything else into question.

I guess you don’t understand timing.

You don't think they have to eat?

They were supposed to go at selected times here in Oregon and we were to stay away which we did. We go at times that they suggested and most were elderly. So they didn’t listen. It had nothing to do with them eating so no to your snarky remark.

Uh, they do every day - you ever tried to sell crack on the corner?
You could extend this example to much less extreme scenarios.
* I just wrote and deleted a very length dissertation on this, but realized it’s better suited for the Politics forum.
back to coronavirus...

Good lord, such a lazy answer that means nothing. You don’t have the intellect to understand. I would explain it to you but it would be futile. Plus your response strengthens my argument.

Sure, you have no idea who I am or what I do, but you live up to your name.

No sense in engaging anymore because you always believe you are correct.
