According to Google the smoking rates between Italy and Germany are pretty similiar (26% in Italy, 24% in Germany). It doesn't explain the huge disparity in death rate between the two places.

Population pyramids are quite similar, Italy being a little bit older but not by much. Perhaps it is just caused by small sample size; maybe the population of the infected in Germany skew younger just by chance or something.

Sample size is 8,000 for Germany versus 32,000 for Italy. So I dont even think sample size is an issue.

Israel has 300 cases with 0 deaths. There I understand small sample size.

Maybe if the media and Dems don’t treat it that way he won’t respond that way. If it is truly an exercise to improve a process then let’s all talk about it that way and act accordingly. Sample size still could definitely could be an issue. 8,000 and 32,000 simply isn't that many people compared to the populations of those countries at large. There are surely way more than 8,000 people infected in Germany and 32,000 in Italy. Many more have it and haven't gotten tested, have mild or no symptoms, etc.
