The vaccine scares me more than the virus itself. There's no way a vaccine rushed through trials this quickly will be long-term safe. Not an anti-vaxxer but people forget how often drugs get recalled. Pharmaceutical companies, above all else, want to profit. R&D costs are sky high and they'll hide findings from the FDA to ensure their newest products get put on pharmacy shelves. The public demand for this thing means it will barely be tested or pushed on the public even if it's not safe.

Don't worry, I'm gonna get to test it for you. I've got head of the line privileges, just like the anthrax vaccination.

Man we have to give our healthcare workers a chance. The fact remains we just don’t know what the true mortality rate for this thing is. I’m more conservative than most. I believe it is much lower than believed based on the lack of testing. But that’s just a guess too. We are a few days away from knowing more about this thing. Mass testing this week will show us. Until then we should absolutely be cautious. I really want to look back at this in a few months and say we overreacted. I don’t want to look back and say man we could have done so much more. Again I hope we know more with mass testing.

My thinking is two weeks ok. We should know more but we are one step away from Marshall Law. Never want to go there. Anything beyond two weeks unless we see without question no other way and not someone just telling us that, is too long. They will know.

Do you really think Americans are going to stay in for a month? I don't see how in the world they are gonna make this happen..I mean once the 25 and under crowd figure out that this thing is basically nothing to their group, there is no f'n way they are staying home for a month.

I don't know if that part will last a month. But it's gonna keep getting more restrictive. I don't see any signs of the escalation slowing down.

You think it's a good idea for older people to be in big groups in today's world? Wow
I believe God watches out for his. If it’s his will I get Coronavirus and die then I accept that. I not going to live my life scared. In scripture we find that God is the one that numbers our days I believe that. Hopefully this can move this nation closer to him.
God knows we need it!!!

How is having faith in god stupid?
You might not understand her faith but to call it stupid is very disrespectful!!!!
That isn't what he said...

Its not just about them going out and possibly catching it, everyone that continues to go out makes it a little easier for it to spread to other people. To keep our healthcare system from getting overwhelmed, people need to stay out of groups for a little while. It sucks but that is just the way it is.

This article gives an excellent breakdown of how the virus spreads with and without containment measures of varying levels: https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/world/corona-simulator/

From the sound of that argument, sounds like a virus is not the scariest thing in your church. It's those damn snakes.

Let's be careful here. I don't agree with many of the modern interpretations of the biblical teachings (prosperity theology really loses me) but there was a fascinating news piece written sometime back by a New York Times writer who originally came from northern Alabama where he had grown up in a church that followed the handling of serpents practices. He returned home from NYC after 20 years to write a critical story about the practice only to find himself drawn back to it so strongly that he ended up handling the snakes himself during a service. I never will understand basing so much on singular passages of the Bible and my interpretations, particularly of the teachings of Jesus, are liberal, but I admire the strength of the faith.

I'm more of a belief that snakes have a right not to be handled if they don't want to be

My elderly grandmother is still going to church with dozens and dozens of others. Just incredibly stupid at this point
I understand your angst, but older people will do older people things. I am sure your grandmother has been through a lot of this in her life. She ain't scared. On another note, some older people are just tired.

Have you considered your elderly grandmother knows she has a limited amount of time left on this earth anyway, so she doesn't want to spend her time alone? None of us live forever, and the older you get, the more precious time becomes.

Think? It definitely is. Humans are huge lovers of routine. Everybody is. And when that routine is messed up some version of "buy all of the toilet paper" happens.

As a scientist, I believe we need to give our researchers the best fighting chance to come up with a vaccine as quickly as possible while trying to flatten the curve.

There will be no effective and readily available vaccine for 6 months to a year..as a human being you have to understand that asking people to just stop living for that long..to "flatten that curve"..is impossible without draconian measures? ..right?

Which I am totally against.
