Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

This is right. We could have been more prepared to do so, but as we stand now it’s going to be extremely difficult to play catch-up.

I'm not really concerned about that part. Everyone was never going to get tested or want to be tested.

I've had the flu when I was younger and just laid on the couch for a week.

Just clarifying there is not a 7% death rate.

There absolutely is in the US with the current numbers, it’s just not available to the general public at this moment.

Sad part is the left is loving this, if they think this could cause a bit of a recession and that’s what gets Biden or Sanders elected in November they are all for this virus.

This line of thinking is pure horse crap! No one is cheering on this virus or a recession. Getting Trump out of office is not worth one person losing their life or people losing their jobs. People that think like this are just as horrible as the people they despise.

Absolutely correct.

So tired of Trump and his slurpers constantly portraying as the victim. Any criticism, even objectively legitimate and accurate, is met with "stop picking on him!"

Bro, you used to get really upset because there were too many mean threads about Obama or because people would refer to him as Obama instead of “President Obama”.

While I don’t disagree with your post, it’s pretty funny seeing it come from you.

Solid post.

I encourage everyone to check out the link Pence gave today. Coronavirus.gov

There is good information there. Particularly these two bits

1583805817505-png.265452

The first part is very clear. "It's likely at some point, widespread transmission will occur". It was stated many times by the taskforce that the virus spreads similarly to the flu.

Next is Illness severity. 16% of cases being serious is not insignficant. Generally, serious illness means hospitalization is necessary. Or at a minimum, some type of care is required.

In a typical flu season, 32 Million Americans are infected and the mortality rate is 0.1%

If we assume the illness over the year will infect as many people as the Flu, we can model this number of deaths with the information available to us.

Right now, overall mortality is about 3.5%.

However, a lack of testing and test availability can skew that number. Consider this.

South Korea has done the most testing. They have tested well over 150,000 and found over 7,500 cases.

So they are starting to reach statistical significance most likely to help us find a more accurate mortality rate.

Their mortality rate if you do that math above is 0.7%

Seven times more deadly than the flu....

But there is a problem. That's the absolute LOWEST the mortality rate can be. Only 247 people have recovered from the illness in that data. You won't have an accurate mortality rate until all patients have recovered. The mortality rate vs recovered rate is a staggering 22%. But that's highly unlikely to bare out. No need to panic about that specifically, but do expect mortality to be higher than 0.7%

So let's be optimistic and say the mortality rate is 0.5%. If 32 million Americans get it (like the Flu), that means around 160K will die this year in the US.

But at a mortality rate of 3.5%, over 1 million Americans will die. That means it's statically likely at least 1 person you know will die from the illness this year (assuming you know at least 300 people)

Now I say all this to say.... we can avoid this with personal responsibility. Even if mortality rate is high on this illness, practing personal responsibility can save lives. You can literally be a hero by simply, shopping online one weekend instead of going to the store.

Just be responsible, think objectively and take care of yourself. If you get ill, stay inside.

Ummm... no. Our society is largely ignorant. Exhibit A: Trump got elected.
Honestly I'm no Trump fan but the reason he was elected is because the dumb arse Democrats nominated Hillary, one of the most divisive politicians in recent history. The majority of the public is smarter than you give them credit for. But I agree that number is shrinking.

If they really wanted people to panic, why didn't they cover any of this two months ago when it was in China and was obviously not contained. If they wanted to scare the life out of people all they would need to show is a few videos of China where people were laying dead in the streets and in the hospital hallways. Or the video of three dead toddlers being loaded into one single body bag. Would have really made people sh*t their pants.
Because we have short attention spans, we become desensitized to images pretty quickly

Because they cant make China look bad. It went from Wuhan flu at first too. Media isn't going to have China in a negative light.

Woohoo! I probably have Covid-19. 2 days ago my niece had a low grade fever but seems to be fine now, she was hanging around the entire family for an in-house birthday dinner. Now I've had a low grade fever(99.4) and a mild cough for a couple days. I already had the flu back in January. I wouldn't even qualify for a test if I went to the hospital so I guess I'm just effed. It's been nice knowing you guys!

Let us know if you die. ;) One of the favorites around our family has always been from the time my sister (about 6 at the time) didn't approve of what my brother was going to do. She said "If you die, don't ever speak to me again." We've never let her live that one down.

Because the name coronavirus has been around for these strains of virus for a long time, like they were discovered 60 years ago. Why would they change the name?
Strains potentially lab created or released however in Wuhan thus the term Wuhan Flu. Spanish Flu is the flu right? That strain was The Spanish Flu. China can't have the whole world calling it the China coronavirus. It makes them look bad in multiple ways.

Jesus you are still with this. It’s a coronavirus bc it’s a coronavirus. That’s it. No medical professional was calling it the Wuhan Flu.
There are a lot of coronaviruses. But there is only one Wuhan Bat virus. Its the king of coronaviruses. Something that could only exist in nightmares. But the Chinese made it real life. Not good!

Where is the Wuhan bat doctor? That mother ****er has some serious questions to answer!

In case anyone is still interested in this graphic. It was shared several times starting a few weeks ago, but I don't remember seeing it posted in the last few days.

It’s not the influenza virus, it’s coronavirus. So why would you call it the flu? I have a deep distrust of government but you’re reaching here.

Not only that released it through carelessness, failed to contain it via suppression and censorship, lied about their numbers, and basically dragged the whole rest of the world down with them instead of dealing with it initially when quarantine and containment was still possible.
