Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

This is another thing I'm afraid of: the .gov will use this virus as an excuse to enact a martial law of sorts to control its citizens.

Maybe at the the state and local level in a few states but that’s about it.

This facility had the first 10 (reported) deaths in America and they STILL haven't been able to test all the staff and residents. It's shameful. And it appears the death count is likely underreported.

If just 1/7th of the US population catches the virus and the death rate is 2 %, that's 400,000 dead.

If my aunt had .all$ she'd be my uncle. What a terrible thing to mention when there is absolutely zero proof now to suggest that can happen. Maybe you would have been on board more if President Trump followed the Obama plan and wait until 1,000 people die before doing anything substantive like restricting air travel.

Can you believe all these hardline conservatives defending government incompetence?

There really is no excuse for the lack of testing. We refused the readily available WHO kits. We refused help from other countries much smaller than us who were testing on scales several orders of magnitude greater than we are, weeks ago. Instead we had to make our own *better* test, which was of course botched. The first tests were correctly flagging covid-19 but most were also giving false positives for other viruses. The CDC said ‘whoops’ and refused to let us use these tests as they work on a fix. Well, people started dying before that fix ever came, and the CDC finally decided ‘whoops, nevermind, go ahead and use the faulty tests and just ignore the false positives’. And only now are labs allowed to start developing their own tests…

We were supposed to start mass surveillance testing weeks ago and that is still weeks away per Pence. The outbreak starting in China gave us 2 months head start and we failed to take advantage of that. We are several weeks behind with the testing. C’mon guys

I’ll once again state 18k+ have died from the flu in the US this flu season. 18,000+

The media is scaring everyone and ppl keep falling for it.

Wash your hands regularly, stop putting your fingers in your mouth and nose, and quit hoarding all the damn Vitamin C, hand sanitizer, and masks. Smh.

Just like with any virus/illness, the elderly/immunocompromised ppl are the most susceptible.

Calm. Down.

Spot on. But the media is tracking every single case and making a big deal about every single death. People are freaking out over absolutely nothing.

So the states share none of the responsibility? Is it because of the states showing the most incompetence?

There is plenty of blame to go around down to the local level for the poor response overall and I’ve stated as much. But the testing issues are mostly thanks to the CDC/fed

Wrong. The local health departments are supposed to be lead on this. In the Southeast, they are doing just fine. Not surprisingly in liberal western and NE states they don’t have a clue

Read whole thread. You'll be so happy that we have someone as competent as Donny leading us forward
