Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

China came clean on the virus news in January, so I wonder how many of the pneumonia deaths attributed to the good old flu that we’ve seen in the US this season were actually from this virus? Fairly sure that Chinese folks were traveling around since December and that lengthy incubation period could be a kicker.

If the CDC were to actually start testing everyone that pops negative for flu but has flu like symptoms the case numbers here might explode.

I agree. This has already been here for weeks or months.

Can't imagine how tough that would be
Just lost my mom to Alzheimer's last week. My dad who is in relatively good health except for pulmonary fibrosis at 81is my worry. Be hard pill to swallow to lose him now. What precautions do you recommend to reduce his risk?

Can't imagine how tough that would be, I remember taking care of my grandparents and my grandmother's twin sister with Alzheimer's and how difficult that was, can't imagine dealing with a parent. Vitamins, regular hand washing and reduced exposure to crowds and people who travel is your best bet. Wishes you and yours the best, sincerely.

I know I like to self diagnose and change my name to whatever conclusion I reach all the time. About to ask Freak to change my name here to CrankyFatBastard.
I hope he sees this and does it just for laughs. :)

That was the class 6 over by the PX. I still have my Redstone Federal Credit Union credit card, my first loan ever came from RFCU. A $500 signature loan at 18, I bought a guys Technics rack stereo system across the way in the barracks, you know the old ones with the glass doors with the magnet clicker in the corner? I rocked Metallica's Kill 'Em All CD until the MP's came, no one could outplay my air guitar solo to Seek and Destroy.

Were you in the single story squared off U-shaped barracks? Those were used for students when I was there - probably more some place else on base.

Meh, I figure if I were to somehow catch this, I'm a high risk to die from it. Immuno-suppressed due to my liver transplant, heart and kidney problems, diabetic. I'm a host of medical problems. But you can't live in fear. If it happens, it happens. Not going to worry about things that might happen, just deal with the things that do happen.

No we were in two story barracks over by the e-club. They've since been torn down, I worked at what used to be known as Fox Army Community Hospital. I think it's a VA type clinic now.

Yeah, I figure I've got two more summers with my boys (they're 16). I'd like to take them to the Galapagos and Machu Picchu before they leave for college.

Try French Polynesia (Tahiti); you'll be hooked for life. The water is far deeper (several feet) than it looks in this picture. There are extensive beds of coral. Best of all - the islands have reefs surrounding them so the water near the island is calm, but with just enough current to keep it clean and amazingly clear. If you get tired of one island, go to another. Hawaii is far younger than French Polynesia; the creation was basically the same volcanic process, but the Hawaiian Islands haven't started sinking like French Polynesia so there are no surrounding reefs in Hawaii. The temperature is far more moderate than the Caribbean - pretty much perfect the entire time we were there. The reefs can be quite extensive - the airport for Bora Bora is actually on the reef rather than the island, so the airport taxis are boats. This isn't my picture; I was too lazy to resize mine.

This is China only...they have a higher smoking rate than the US...in fact they have as many smokers as we have people...their life expectancy is about 3 years less so I assume the virus will be less deadly in other countries

So stupid. It’s a virus. It spreads. You can’t stop it. You just do your best to minimize it.

My kid got H1N1 10 years ago. Do I get to blame Obama?

So ignorant. You are a fool if you think we've done our BEST to minimize it.

Do you think we should have completely shut down international travel? Have you considered the ramifications?

Yes. We've done it before and we all survived. Now a lot of people will die.

I like how you completely skipped over my last reply to you about testing. It's a shame you are simply in here defending Trump and not actually giving a true professional medical opinion on the response to all of this or the lack thereof. Then again you're a pediatrician so you don't even get to see the ramifications of this virus in the geriatric population.

Never mind that the last time this happened in America, 12,000 died in 2009 from H1N1. It never crossed my mind to blame the President.

The shame is you're only in here to blame Trump. Not everything has to be about politics.

It looks bad here because it hit some sort of Nursing Home in Washington, correct? Six deaths out of a 100 (more or less) cases is rather alarming.

2 new cases now in Georgia.

When have we ever shut down all international travel?

Say what? I've said multiple times that politicizing this is ridiculous. Sorry if I missed a question...I am not able (or willing) to stay glued to the forum all day, and this thread has been a little nutso. What were you asking?
