Somewhere between 300,000 and 650,000 people are killed by flu a year.So would I. But would you bet the under at 25 million or the over at 1 million? Where would you set the line if you were Vegas?
Common influenza has ~1% fatality rate. Corona is around ~2%. SARS was closer to 10%, higher depending on where you look. If you notice for instance the Italy fatalities they're all very elderly. Spanish flu was killing at a high rate across all age groups, Coronavirus seems to be mainly killing the elderly. I think the panic is very unwarranted but obviously there is political hay to be made by flailing around saying we're all going to die.
11:23 am: Trump sows confusion in discussing vaccine
President Donald Trump told reporters that “we’re very close to a vaccine” while answering questions about the COVID-19 outbreak during a state visit to India, prompting outlets from the Jerusalem Post to the New York Post to write that Trump said the U.S. was close to finding a vaccine for the deadly new coronavirus. The White House later said Trump was referring to the Ebola vaccine— not the coronavirus. —Breuninger
We’re going to take an economic hit over this virus even if the US doesn’t have massive infection numbers.
