2020 Presidential Race

So we are now lowering the bar to ..do/did, maybe , will possibly , could have , a fairly decent , healthcare system that might, be on par with the rest of the world “If “ we just get it right this time ? Yup that’s my thinking also . That’s not even trying to factor in cost analysis on what “ healthcare for all “ means because we don’t have the numbers on “ ALL” . But I’m sure it will work out just fine with our track record in our government .
Why do you think European governments are just naturally more competent than ours? I see no reason to think our universal health care would be worse than their universal health care.

In many countries public education ends after 12 years, the biggest difference is that in many countries kids can spend their last 3-4 years of HS training for a trade so they are employable once they graduate. For decades now we have ignored the trades in our HS so even with that HS diploma the vast majority of kids are unemployable without a college degree.

It’s almost to the point now where in a lot of fields even a bachelors isn’t enough to land a job.
Yep Mike Rowe..from Dirty Jobs has been trying to correct that for years

Really ? Because we are so much like them ? You guys love comparing our country to Europe except that you can’t because we are not like Europe . I like potatoes and watermelon , but comparing the two using the same metrics is ridiculous.

Our healthcare system has been spiraling out of control for awhile now. There will be corrections made to the system. We have the best doctors, nurses, and researchers (thanks education system) but we have far to many parasites getting rich while adding nothing. The health care system shouldn't be viewed as and used as a cash cow, and many do just that.

Then why are people constantly trying to compare our educational systems?
Compare everything or compare nothing, just be consistent.

Comparing or telling you that it’s ( government ran healthcare ) probably going to end up the same as our educational system or worse .

Actually if you look at the numbers, our per capita expenditures on education are more in line with other nations than is our per capita health care expenditures.
So maybe nationalized healthcare would be the same.

Wrong. We spend much more on education and get minimal return which is around average. With high healthcare costs, we have one of the finest healthcare.

The biggest reason it’s hard to compare governments is because when they have problems, they try to fix them, while we try and pretend they don’t exist. See healthcare, for example.

I’ll go with that . Do you see our government changing to fix the problems that will arise from it ?

I agree you with. Fewer need college and there needs to be an increase in HS training for a trade. It's moving back in that direction. There certainly has been a dumbing down over the decades, but that is in spite of, not because of public education.

It's because of who has been running public education.

Nope. That's just wrong on multiple levels.

We spend highest in world $16K per student every year, which is higher than the $12K/year for healthcare. There is no dispute that we have middle of the road results in education. Why no outrage and desire to revamp our education system as well? Fact.

We do/did have the worlds best interstate system, and the space program was the envy of the world. Fairly decent criminal justice system.

Did have, not any more. Interstates are falling apart, space program is a joke and our criminal justice system needs to be burned to the ground.

The federal government has always been incompetent trying to solve issues on a huge national scale. With today's DC dysfunction, now is the time to start implementing solutions at state and local levels more so than ever before. Implement the 10th and we would be much better off culturally and politically.

Healthcare, probably, because the public outcry for failures would be pretty hard to ignore. Other areas, I’m admittedly less optimistic.

You believe public out cry will make our government run a program better , less expensive , and more efficient than a private insurance company ?

OK, I've been having a bad dream that the presidential contest this fall is going to be between dumb and dumber. Please tell me it's really not happening.
