Actually, your concern here is unfounded. Scientific evidence is conclusive that no OTC cold/cough remedies are effective at decreasing symptoms, reducing illness duration, or improving outcome after influenza or other respiratory virus infections.

I'm going to put my world travel, my military inoculations and my life of being a kid and living outside is going to keep me from getting this virus.
I just find it interesting that little kids can't even have a peanut butter sandwich these days. Those are the ones that are going to die from this virus.

The Tylenol and Ibuprofin I took while sick with the flu absolutely helped with fever and symptoms. The antiviral I had access to helped my treatment, maybe it only bought me 24 hours in the long run but that's 24 hours I wouldn't have stacked for me without it. The Mucinex I took helped me clear the congestion from my chest before it became a problem. My ability to move around on my own and not be confined to a bed allowed me to drink extra fluids which kept me hydrated

2,588 new cases and 88 deaths in the latest updates. The trend continues to slow and this is one of the lowest daily new case totals in awhile but I just don't believe we're seeing an end to this yet. Though the deaths outside of the Wuhan epicenter are starting to increase.

The link is once your lungs are compromised your heart has to work even harder to circulate blood from the right heart into the lungs trying to meet oxygen demands of the heart and the body. The heart strains like that long enough it will go into failure. For those already cardiac compromised its almost assured. Then you enter a low flow state caused by an inefficient pump causing low blood pressure. With low blood pressure the kidneys and liver will take a hit too. They are used to good pulsitile flow and oxygen, now they have neither.

Well, we now recommend exposing kids to peanut around 6 months, as this has been shown to reduce their risk for peanut allergy.

I do wish that we could get kids off the dang phones and outside more. It's maddening.

Yeah, antivirals do shorten symptoms, but they are prescription, not OTC. Ibuprofen or acetaminophen reduce fever and make you feel better. Guaifenesin has no proven benefit, but it's safe to use.

My point was: limiting access to OTC cold remedies by no means increases the risk for complications from viral infections. Sorry for the confusion.

What is the latest total for cases in the US?

The videos coming out of China are concerning, people being taken from houses forcefully. Fogging the streets looks like it is for show only, can't imagine it would serve any practical purpose save making people feel like government is on it.

US is still sitting at 12 infected. Been that way for a few days. Hopefully that's a good sign that it may not burn through the world the way it initially looked.
