The rule is there to lessen interference with defenders in passing routes, I believe.
It's too restrictive in my opinion. I would give them 5 yards past the LOS.

I never understood why Venables doesn’t try for a HC position. One of the best DC’s in the game and a main reason for Clemsons success.
