It's schtick. Gervais likes to insult people and go against the grain of his audience. What’s really funny is Gervais’s political views. He isn’t a Trump supporter by a long shot. He’s a liberal and an atheist. He just can’t stand the politically correct elitist Hollywood attitude. He wasn’t making a political statement here, go look up his views on comedy and politics. He was just mocking the Hollywood idiots for who they are. And it was glorious. Yes it feathers nicely into Trumps sound bites. But don’t think Gervais did that monologue for that reason, it was just pure contempt for the Hollywood idiots

Something that should resonate with @BowlBrother85 !It wasn't about Trump - it was about self righteous BS and general hypocrisy.
Yeah, and if he was in the southeast, he would be going off on people being fat and having bad teeth and living in trailer parks... he would talk about fast food and eating out of a bucket. It's schtick. No it’s his genuine contempt for the PC culture. The fact that it’s funny and rings true to so many average people makes it a successful pitch for him.
