Kirk Herbstreit picks IU to Beat VOLS

You guys, I swear. Herbstreit is as good and as fair a national football personality as there is. You guys calling him a big 10 homer like he’s some kind of anti-Vol because he picked Indiana...give it a rest.

How many times have we seen him the last few years predict Tennessee in huge upsets vs some of our biggest rivals? Spoiler alert, a ton.

Kirk moved to Brentwood 10 or so years ago, talks up the Vols pretty much every chance he gets. The ONLY time I’ve heard him go “anti-vol” is when he reflexively called for Gaulden to be dismissed from the team when he gave Bama fans the double birds a couple years ago....and even then, he came back a couple days later and apologized, said he overreacted.

So he picked Indiana, who cares? It’s what he thinks. And it in no way means he’s anti-Vol or a Big 10 homer or butthurt over the 1995 Citrus bowl or unprofessional or any of that stuff. It just means he thinks it may be a bad matchup for Tennessee and that Indiana may be a better team than a middling Vols team with a schizo QB that was all over the map this year.

Herbstreit talks like he's one of the guys (Brady, Manning, Brees, etc.), but is biased everytime an
SEC school takes the field. I will believe he is a legitimate commentator when I hear him say that
LSU could curb stomp anyone in the Big 10. I want someone talking down the Vols who has a better
college record than he does.

What loss? Against Clemson?

LOL the butthurt from some on here about someone predicting the winner of the game is the height of weakness.

Yea it's annoying, like some on her always being negative...

Herbstreit is awesome. Smart guy, knows football, knows the college football landscape, and is in no way a homer for the B10 or his alma mater. I've seen him pick against them many times.

I do think he has a bit of a crush on the Vols, he's shown us a lot of love over the years. Completely different from Fowler, who got his feelings hurt by our reaction to his trailer park comment.

Kirk did go wrong on the Schiano deal, but everyone gets one mulligan.

Okay, he's gonna need a second mulligan after we whomp the crap out of the Hoosers tonight. Haha.

But I got no problem with Mr. Herby.

Go Vols!

IU's secondary, in particular, doesn't match up well with our WRs. That's why losing Jennings for the 1st half is so big IMO.

We still might have the advantage without Jennings, but it'll be less dramatic. We'll have to see if Callaway and Palmer can still make some big plays w/o Jennings on the field.

As well as our D has played, I think Indiana will get its share of points against us. We can't flop on offense and expect to win the game, so we've got to find a way to generate plays both w/ and w/o Jennings.
Yep, I wasn’t impressed with their defense in general, good d-line, but they looked slow to me.

I agree. Wish I could choose who called our bowl game. I’d pick Herbstreit and McElroy, now that would be a dynamic duo.

Yea Jennings out is big for us, but hopefully we can get Gray open in space out of the backfield and JG doesn't implode in the 1st half. I think if we can be tied or in the lead going into half with the addition of Jennings we should be ok in the game.

Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin lost their bowl games. With the exception of Minnesota, the upper crust of the big 10 hasn’t fared well.

It's not like most of those teams got blown away or anything. Ohio State lost at the very end; could've easily won the game. Same deal with Wisconsin, which lost by 1. Iowa trounced USC. Penn State won by 2 TDs versus Memphis. Michigan was the only one that fared poorly, but they also played a team that was much more talented.

I would say the Big 10 fared pretty well overall but didn't catch the breaks in the close games.

Some coach famously said "we're weak, but we're slow". Who was that? It seems to apply to Herb's reasons for liking Indiana.

With Bama, FLA, and UGA all winning their games....feels like the universe is against us.

While I probably respect KH about as much as any analyst I've heard (trust me that's not saying a whole lot) I sure hope he's wrong on this one. I must admit IU's offense has me a little concerned as well. I still think the Vols will get pressure and our secondary will hold their own.

Those Big 10 teams that lost were plenty good. We would have lost to all of them....some or maybe all by big margins.

It's ridiculous how personal most of these people take it when someone picks against us.

Herbstreit is the best in the biz. Anyone who thinks he's a Big 10 homer isn't paying attention. I hope he's wrong, but if he picked Indiana it's because he thinks they're more likely to win. And that doesn't hurt my feelings.

Look here, Greg Amsler, I appreciate what you did as fullback for our beloved Vols but KH is a Big 10 homer and the only team he likes in orange is Clemson.

Respect my opinion :p
