8 seems like the optimal number to me. You can afford a loss in the regular season and will get in, no exceptions. There were scenarios this year where 1 loss conference champs could be excluded

Yeah, I'm ok either way. If it gets us an extra game of fb or helps stop a real contender from being left out one year, I'm alright with it.
