That’s always been their weakness. It’s why I would have suggested Norvell hire a P5 DC. This year was better under a new DC, Adam Fuller, and he left with Norvell.

At the end of the day, research shows defense is more dependent on having talent (as compared to offense). You can add a ton of value to the offense with scheme. It's why the breakout G5s (Boise, UCF, Memphis) are built on great offenses. Even in bowl games vs big P5 teams, they can still score.

But their defenses are unlikely to ever hold up. You just can't coach/scheme-up your defense THAT much.

They have been a second half team in “bigger” games but might be down by 20+ at half if not careful. He has to know they simply don’t match up on the LOS.
