Barnes has got to play Vescovi now.

FWIW, new 247 article is up, coach says it is up to Vescovi whether he plays this year or not. Article reminds us he still has to be cleared.
This is great news. Can’t imagine a top 100 recruit saying he would rather sit, even for just half a season. Jmo
Not saying he will come in meeting expectations, but it would show he has the confidence in his game that he can help right away. And that can help override the seriousness and magnitude of the stage he’s going to be playing.

It's Tennessee, he won't

Very true. Proper expectations is all I try to pay attention to.
So we should just expect less from our 5* players compared to other schools, got it.

*Not talking Ves, I don't expect much from him TBH. JJJ on the other hand...

My post was directed at SV posts saying he’s better than Pistol Pete. All I’m saying is expectations shouldn’t be set off highlight video. If folks would have watched the McDonalds aa game or read the quote of JJJ’s high school coach saying he might struggle shooting the ball(I paraphrased there) expectations might have been a little more tempered, scoring wise. Other than scoring, he’s definitely lived up to the 5* rating. Imo

He's played well, just not as good as a Top 30 guy IMO. It just seems we get the more developmental 5* than a game changer (which is what a 5* should be in basketball IMO).

Agree. Hopefully the sample size keeps growing. If it does, Gotta love our chances of getting more game changing 5s, starting next year.

It's gotta even out eventually lol

As long as JJJ continues to get better I can't really complain. Although I will be the first to admit I expect a BIG jump between year 1 and 2 with RB at the helm.

JJJ is averaging 7.4, 6.3, and 2.5.

The following were ranked higher than him on Rivals:
Trendon Watford- 12.9, 5.9, and 1.9
Bryan Antoine- 2.2, 0.7, and 0.5
Khalil Whitney- 5.2, 2.5, and 0.6
John Green- 13.1, 5.1, and 2.4
Matthew Hurt- 10.6, 3.1, and 0.7
Scottie Lewis- 8.1, 4.2, and 0.5

Other 5 stars:
Samuel Williamson- 5.6, 3.5, 0.7
Patrick Williams- 9.0, 3.3, and 1.3
Isaiah Mobley- 8.7, 6.5, and 1.2
Tre Mann- 5.9, 2.0, and 0.6
Will Baker- 0.9, 1.3, and 0.3
Keion Brooks- 6.5, 3.7, and 0.5
CJ Walker- 6.2, 3.0, and 0.3

Anyway, point is that only the top 6-8 ranked players are automatic difference makers and instantly elite. I think it was discussed months ago that JJJ was raw offensively and might be here more than one year. Now that Turner’s done, he will certainly get more chances.

It's not just JJJ*. Historically, 5 star players for Tennessee seem to disappoint.

*he was the lowest rated 5* in the ESPN rankings.

Yea, but we haven’t had many, at least as long as I have been following. Tobias speaks for himself. Hopson actually contributed quite a bit his last year or two. Stokes was a difference maker. Crews was gone after a year along with Ramar Smith, who actually started at PG.

It’s not a coincidence that the highest rated one was the best and is a star in the NBA. He was in that ranking of being a virtual lock to be a dynamic player.

The irony of roustabout having me on ignore (or so he says) is that before I realized he had me on ignore a year or so ago, I couldn’t think of one single event between the two of us. Like he just existed out there like thousands of other VN posters just like him that are just faceless screen names. Then all of a sudden, he makes this great proclamation about how he has me on ignore and what bliss it has brought him. I’d venture to guess he’s mentioned it a dozen or so times since his great reveal.

I feel like I owe him rent money, or something, for all the space I’ve unknowingly taken up inside his frail mind. It just feels like stealing, at this point.
I’ve been around here a long time and don’t recall you going on too strong of tangents to become ignore worthy? FWIW, I’ve only ever put 2 folks on ignore and roust is one of them. I’ve suggested several folks put me on ignore when they become obsessed with critiquing my opinions to the point of personalizing it.

Yeah, hate to see anything become personal. A lot of times it’s better to agree to disagree. “We’re gonna be ok.” “No we’re not, we suck.” “Your breath stinks and you need a better haircut, pansy.”

Still, Tobias fell farther in the draft than he should have because he didn’t exactly have an a excellent season here. Sucks his one season was in Pearl’s last year/worst team, it tough situation for him. But he was easily a top 10 talent and he slid to 19 after being one of the top HS players in the country

Having a UT guy go top 10/ lottery I think would be huge for our program. I hope Keon or Springer or JJJ rises to that level. I think we’d see it start to sway guys like Kennedy Chandler and Paolo Banchero.

Tobias averaged 15.3 points and 7.3 rebounds as a freshman and between him and Hopson, was generally the primary go-to option. That’s pretty dang good for a freshman.

What hurt his draft stock was questionable athleticism and average outside shooting numbers. That and being a member of the same draft class as Kyrie Irving, Kawhi Leonard, Klay Thompson, Kemba Walker, and Tristan Thompson.

Of course, the teams that selected Chris Singleton, Jimmer Fredette, Jan Vesely, and Bismack Biyombo ahead of TH probably regret that decision. Milwaukee probably regrets giving up on him so early, as well, but again, their decision to move on was based on his slow development with regard to his athleticism and shot. He was a guy that probably could have used an additional in college to develop, but given his draft projection and his coach getting fired, I can understand why he jumped.

Here’s how you started.

Calling someone ignorant and not once addressing their content is a personal attack, or ad hominem. If you don’t agree with what i say, I’m totally fine with that. I don’t expect people to agree with me!

You then reply,
Again, no actual rebuttal or content. That’s just an insult.

Thanks for proving my point...I rest my case - lol

Tobias was the 5th college freshman drafted in that draft class, considering he was the #7 nationally ranked player by rivals I would say that was about expected.

I actually find it refreshing that Coach Barnes does not seem to panic unlike us (the fanbase). All of his teams continue to improve throughout the year. That doesn't mean we make the NCAA tourney but our expectations have to be fluid based on the circumstances. This program has a bright future.

I want Vescovi to maximize his talent while here if that means sitting out to do it then we will have to accept that.....but every time they are struggling to bring the ball up I will almost want to scream "Put Vescovi in". :)
