Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

I told my wife's partners that I wanted to join the tribe, it's the no bacon and scallops thing that's holding me back.
Turkey bacon is your friend.
It’s interesting thought, I know several people that have stopped eating pork and shellfish. They all have said after about a year the smell of it cooking makes them sick.

Just can't do it. Smoked bacon wrapped scallops are my kryptonite. I also don't understand the no dairy with beef rule, cheeseburgers are a present from G-d.

My family tends to interpret scripture for ourselves and sets aside traditions. we try to interpret for the position that everything has a reason. So what is the separation of meat and dairy all about? I’ve spent a crapload of time on this and to me it comes down to storage and illness prevention and not so much “just because “. We store or meats and dairy separately but have no issues with eating a cheeseburger. Now rabbi Tov completely disagrees but he’s not my judge.

I've always thought the dietary restrictions were born out of illness prevention. They make good sense in a world without refrigeration.

If they still have issues then tell them to melt their cheese on the bun top and put lettuce between the meet and cheese. Problem solved

I'll try that. They are pretty Orthodox, one won't even shake my wife's hand so I don't think it will work.

The orthodox members of my family are convinced I’m damned so you’re probably right. It doesn’t help that I refer to him as Cousin Ahab.
(not from Moby Dick)

They're cool, both like to drink. When they were explaining some of the Kosher rules I commented on how convenient it is that almost all whiskey is Kosher. Neither has a religious objection to the stuff I make.

I have life long family friends who are Jewish. The mom, I call her Aunt Jackie, had a very strict kosher home. The funny thing about her is that she would eat cheeseburgers in her car. I asked her about it once and she replied, we have a kosher home not a kosher car. She was hysterical.

That’s funny
