LittleVol's Projected starters:
(projected weight included)

JLB- Morven Joseph 6'3 230 lbs Fr.
WLB- Quvarius Crouch 6'2 252 lbs So.
MLB- Henry To'oto'o 6'3" 243 lbs So.
SLB- Roman Harrison 6'2 242 lbs So.

Outlook:
We're losing Daniel Bituli (258 tkls 4 sks 2TD's) and Darrell Taylor (112 tkls 18 sks 5 FF). These two really spearheaded the late defensive surge during the 2019 season.
Both are on NFL draft boards and take their leadership with them as they graduate on. A lot of programs would be hurting with this loss in talent but not the Vols.

DeAndre Johnson (12 tkls, 2.5 sks), and Kivon Bennett (24 tkls 2 sks) in 2019; will be two 4 year guys that can provide leadership on the field and in the locker room. Yet, the real talent is in the younger classes. Expect that talent
to rise to the top in 2020. To'oto'o was a Freshman All-American and started every game for the Vols in 2019. He will assume leadership of what I expect to be the best defense the Vols have fielded in 10 years.
Flanking him will be Crouch who can play every linebacker position (and even RB) at WLB. He will still line up outside on occasions and allow guys like JJ Peterson and Martavius French to play inside and provide the much needed size and depth missing from the rotation.
His preferred position is OLB, but right now he is the best "Inside" LB on the team next to Henry To'oto'o.
Bryson Eason at 6'2 270 can move for a big man and hits like a truck! He is a combo backer that will perhaps put his hand on the ground one day. Tyler Baron was a huge get right out of Knoxville, TN.
at 6'4 265 he is another jumbo player than can have an impact as a pass-rusher.
Harrison- The former 5A Georgia Defensive player of the year- dealt with injuries had a bit of learning curve
his true freshman season, but he already has a reputation of being one of the meanest, nastiest, most aggressive players on the team- strongest too. I expect him to earn the SLB spot through the fall and make this defense that much better.
Joseph is only a true freshman, but the 4 * Lakeland, FL native is a premier talent as a pass rusher and is simply to talented and smart to stay off the field.
Aaron Beasley, Solon Page, will look to continue their contributions on Special Teams.

Summary:
This group is maybe the best "looking' or most physically imposing group of Linebackers we've had in a long time. They're young, but experienced and extremely talented.
They will be one of the most exciting position groups in all the conference in 2020
* Guys like Len'Neth Whitehead and Jeremy Banks could also factor into the development later on depending on coaching decisions.

Please feel free to post your projections or just your opinion on this grossly talented group of linebackers we have.

Given time and a healthy career, Henry T could surpass even the great Al Wilson.
This Linebacker group looks exactly like what you want in a 3-4 defense. They all can run and hit and have the physicality to take on O-lineman.

I think the starters on Tennessee's defense against Charlotte on September 5th 2020 will be

LDE Darel Middleton
DT Greg Emerson
RDE Aubrey Solomon
JACK Deondre Johnson
SAM Kivon Bennett
MLB Quarvaris Crouch
WLB Henry To'o To'o
LCB Alontae Taylor
SS Tyus Fields
FS Jalen McCollough
RCB Bryce Thompson
That's a pretty stout D. Exciting to see how the two deep develops.

I've mentioned it in previous threads about To'oto'o but he is the rah rah leadership Al Wilson type guy. I doubt he takes a back seat to anyone leading in the Vols locker room especially on defense next season. These guys are all big time players and will push each other for excellence while they're on The Hill. The next 2 years of defense by the Vols will be very very special IMO as long as we can remain healthy.

This is just ridiculous. Bennett and Johnson both took steps and will again this year. They will be in their third year in the program.

Great summary! I would have replied sooner, but after reading it, I think I may have concussed myself when running through the wall here...

MoJo is not an EE, correct? I think he’ll need experience and conditioning before rising to a #1 on the depth chart. And boy, I hope JJP uses the bowl practice and off season to take a big step forward along with Roman Harrison.

I'm not sure if Mojo is an EE but he's the most advanced pass-rusher we've recruited since Barnett. Jmo...

D Johnson and K Bennett aren't to be looked over but neither of those guys could really claim that JLB spot. Bennett really flashed sometimes. I just think Harrison will be "The guy ". Peterson is slowly improving. Who knows he may be good enough to start beside Henry next year?

French is a heck of a prospect! Eason might be there at 260 and thumbing people....
A lot of GOOD peices to work with

Mojo and Q might switch!? A lot of good options.

Good write-up, LV. I'd only disagree on Joseph. Seems unlikely he'll be a Day 1 starter as a true Freshman, though I hope he does get significant playing time.

To'o To'o and Harrison seem very likely as starters. I think Crouch starts as well, albeit, not sure if he'll be inside or outside (and it may depend on who else emerges).

Thanks DG
Many said the same thing about Henry T last season.
Joseph is already used to playing on the edge unlike Harrison coming in as a freshman.

Crouch and To'oto'o are our best 2 LBs period. Mojo was such a crucial get.

We'll see how it plays out.

I posted their stats. They didn't exactly set the world on fire....
Uh, because they are currently back ups. What’s their production per minutes played? Bituli amd Taylor likely got 85-90% of the snaps, as starters do.
Did Taylor and Bituli our up the numbers they did when they were younger? No. You obviously don’t understand how this game works.

Compare each one’s first half of the season to the second. Bennett was clearly coming on and showing something we haven’t seen from him previously.

If Banks were to be back for the spring I’d predict this for the O/W starters:
Crouch and Bennett outside
Banks and Henry T inside

In the fall I think we see Crouch and Banks battling to start inside....and Crouch also battling Harrison to start outside. I think Bennett and Henry T are the most obvious projected starters.

With true Fr you can never tell what they will/can do. Those Whitehaven kids have played a lot of high level FB and are already bulky dudes. They could easily figure into the mix, just as Joseph could, but not something “predictable” based on what we have on campus.

Also Jordan Allen will be back outside and it’s not crazy to think the light may come on for him. Same thing for JJ inside in his 3rd year in the system. Our LB room and front 7 overall just got a lot better yesterday.

No matter what we hope for, Bituli will be missed for a while, hopefully before mid season we'll be running smoothly.
Agree about Bituli, To to o has got some big shoes to fill. Was thinking about him today, he was absent for the first few games, (not naming them) and his absence was felt. He was a game changer, no doubt about that!!!
