Realistic expectations for H. Bailey (Merged)

The best case scenario for us is that he comes in and looks really good in the spring and fall camps but JG still wins the job. The competition should push JG but if he falters you have Bailey to fall back on.
I dont think you understand what best case scenario means. Best case is not having a guy that struggled to be average half the time to win the QB job again.
Best case is Bailey comes in and plays so good there is no question who the #1 guy is and should be, and that the QB position is a strength and not a liability.
If that dont happen we will still be ok , but will have to rely heavily on the D again to win, unless the O line and running game have a huge improvement.

I hope the kid redshirts next year for his sake.. a few bad drives and volnation will have the pitchforks ready
I hope he doesn't red shirt next year. I want him to gains as much experience as possible and get the offense down pat. He seems to be a quick learner and should be ready to play a lot of football during the last part of the season. In addition, don't forget we signed another very good QB from Mississippi who has electronic time 4.38 40. We are finally getting talent which turn into a much more talented football team with depth. I love it.

If you sit him two years, he'll be playing for someone else in year two. I've watched him 2 years now while living in Dville, GA. Has the build and arm of Peyton with the head of Casey. He'll be playing starting QB on The Hill next year before the season is out IMO. He IS needed right away, our best QB returning as an upper classman literally took a potential win over Bama out of this team's hands, lost to BYU and Ga State and played well only in spurts down the stretch.

^^^^^ above post nailed it. Bailey will be the starter no later than mid season. Chaney has his QB now. He wont have to be all world, Defense will be real good in my opinion.

I haven't been wrong since the last time. Go Vols..

Just a heads up, but I feel we need to slow down with our expectations for Bailey coming on to campus and being QB1 on day one. The kid throws an elite ball, no question, but he also holds onto the ball for a long time and takes sacks and he is prone to throw interceptions.

No doubt that can all be corrected, but I'm telling you, he is a work in progress as I've seen him play multiple times. You can't simply look at stats because 1. That's not a true indicator of how a player's game translates to the next level and 2. a LOT of his throws were either perimeter throws to exceptional athletes or short passes to a generational talent in Gilbert.

I really think he can be the guy one day, I just don't think there's anyway shape or form he comes into the current QB room and leap frogs any of those guys in short order, Shrout included... To me, great thing about all of this is that he isn't needed right away and he can get a year or two in Coach Chaney's system.

I think you're correct that HB won't be "the guy" on day 1 (and BTW, neither was Peyton Manning) but, like Peyton, I wouldn't be bit surprised if HB is starting by mid-season.

Win the starting job as a freshman then lead our team to a 15-0 record then petition to join the draft after his freshman season and be drafted #1 over all along as all American and playoff MVP song win AP Player of the year award along with the Heisman.

Throw me in the pile of votes for redshirting. That would mean that the QBs already on campus are taking care of business and he can sit back for a year and learn before competing in his RS Fr or Soph year.

Are we liking or retweeting for redshirt?

He’s going to be here in January. I expect him to develop and really push for time in the fall. I hope JG is so good he doesn’t get beat out.

Jg needs to move on, We need someone with much more ceiling to their play than him. Don't let him blow any more games for us. Jg a good guy just not a good sec qb. If any or our qb on roster play equal to him in practice, they should start, because jg has proven time and time again he is a much better practice player than a game player.

Big difference from HS to college so you never know...BUT, he will be an early enrollee so he will get a head start on the system and on college life In general. If JG returns I suspect he will be the starter from day one and Bailey will compete for the #2 spot along with the other 3 QBs...

in an idea world JG finally gets it all together and leads the Vols to a 10+ win season and Bailey plays in 4 games to get experience.

I like Abingdon, I lived there a couple of years while I played at and graduated from Emory and Henry...

Anyway, to your point, I already replied on down the thread about the gist of their (Marietta's) offense and stated a more accurate analysis is about his tendency, on drop back passes, to force throws and to hold on the ball too long. I have seen play him live and in color multiple times and I don't need to see a bunch of #'s to tell me what I saw was wrong. Fact is, a high schooler's stats don't matter to colleges. I've never had a college coach say to me "he looks good on film, what are his stats?"

He's going to be a dandy, just not the moment he arrives on campus.
He will be Freshman AA next year. You heard it here first.
