The Impeachment Thread

Most oppose impeachment. Dems tried to make the case for it and support went in the other direction.

Fox poll says 50% want impeachment AND removal.

That's a Fox poll. FOX. F.O.X.

Also, 50%, that's awful. Half of 'Murica, that's more than the totality of the Dems, it must include some independents as well.

I really don't understand what is impeachable. What did he do that was wrong? ...And I'm completely serious.
Donald Trump withheld $391 million in Congressionally authorized military aid to the Ukraine (tax payer money), and used it as leverage against their President's willingness to go on CNN and announce an investigation into the Bidens. The purpose behind this action was not to root out corruption in the Ukraine or to advance the best interests of the United States or an ally. Donald Trump's purpose was strictly for the benefit of his own 2020 re-election campaign. He wanted to damage Joe Biden's reputation because Biden was the front-runner for the nomination of the Democratic Party - and still is, by the way. If you can't see the Presidential abuse of power in that, then you are beyond help.

Delayed, not blocked oh and gave more than your socialist hero
Yes, after the Trump Administration became aware of what was being alleged in the whistleblower's complaint, the freeze on the military aid was lifted ... but not until then. Obviously, the Trump Administration knew that they absolutely had to release the military aid following the whistleblower's complaint. They could see that a scandal was coming. Donald Trump doesn't get credit for releasing the military aid after that.

I’ve asked this question three times with no response so far . Are we going to hold the Dems that don’t vote for it to the same standard ?
I'll answer, I'll answer.
We will hold them to almost the same standard.
They know their vote is pointless without a break in the republican party.
What would take guts and a spine is for the first republican or two to break the ice, short of that happening; the end result is obvious.
So to recap:
Dems. voting no to impeachment is weak and wrong.
Repubs voting no is weaker and worse.

The timing of the release is pretty much an admission of guilt; otherwise, why withhold it as you did and then release it?
What changed other than the bribery being discovered?

He blocked delivery of aid needed by a country fighting our greatest adversary and conditioned delivery of it on an artificial investigation of a fake scandal.
Others say he didn't. If the evidence is irrefutable, how can there be interpretations?

...and per The Washington Post there is also evidence that the Trump Administration was trying to justify the hold after the fact. They knew it was wrong and that they couldn't tell the truth.

You were the original one I asked the question to because you said it was a shame for someone to give up their principles just to keep their job . Like everything else , I expected the tap dance routine explaining how one ( the Rs ) was going to be worse than the other ( the Ds) . LG says all should be let go , you say one is worse than the other . Interesting views .

Per Politifact:

Trump placed a hold on the military aid just a few days prior to the July 25th phone call with Zelensky. The hold was lifted on September 11th... However, the whistleblower complaint had been filed on August 12th. So, the funds were withheld for about 7 weeks. The Trump White House had been fighting against the complaint being released to the House Oversight Committee, but once they realized that they wouldn't be getting any support from Mitch McConnell and the Senate on withholding the complaint from Congress, they lifted the hold and then submitted the whistleblower's complaint to Congress.
