They didn't get hosed. The advertisers were just pissed because there were more TV sets in that state. It was a one loss team that won their conference vs a one loss team that didn't and lost the day prior to selection. Don't listen to whatever ESPN is selling.

I believe the beef was that Oklahoma didn't play a championship game... OSU whined and then the next year, if I recall, got beat bad by VA Tech early in the season then made the playoff...

I think you may be right. We lost a national championship in the championship game once and we were the only conference that had one at that time, iirc.
