I don't think we were nearly consistent enough in the run game either. But yes, I would expect us to be better in all phases of the game next season.
Agree about the run game. I expect it to improve both with the improvement of the OL and with Gray's development as well. Would be nice to land a difference maker at RB also. Have to wait until the 2021 class I guess unless Hodge surprises us.

In my opinion, while I’m not sure we’re elite anywhere, except maybe the secondary, next year, the only potential weakness I see is at receiver. And I’m not sure they will be that weak. I just believe we need more talent overall before we’re looking at winning the East. I expect us to go 9-3 or, if everything goes right, 10-2 next year.
We’re on the same page man. I feel like we drop one we don’t expect and win one against the big three (Bama, UF, UGA) as well to finish right at nine.

You know.... I can be opinionated and generally think I'm a smart guy... but then real life is always there to remind me what a know-nothing potato head I am.

For example.... In August, I would've wagered a sum of money that Savion Williams would be very good this year, and was wishing we did not include Middleton in the class. Didn't think he'd ever amount to anything on account of how reluctant he was to be a DL (by all reports).

Of course, it comes to pass that Middleton consistently flashed as the year wore on... and Savion Williams was an invisible man.

Unfortunately, I'm also not smart enough to humble myself. So don't mind me as I continue posting like a know it all.

I want to keep Rocker for that reason. Add a recruiter elsewhere. He is just too dang valuable as a position coach. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen improvement in a group the way I’ve seen it in our DL. And he’s working with no stars on that DL for the most part. Emerson and Solomon, but the rest are a bunch of throw togethers and he’s doing amazing work with them
Agreed. If somehow we can get Tosh on the staff that would be tremendous in terms of recruiting, especially regarding the front 7 defensively.

Also very excited to see this DL next year. We get everyone back. Gooden will be healthy, Simmons and Savion will be in better shape, and we’ll be bringing in a solid bunch of freshmen that can be eased in. As long as the freshmen at LB and DB can provide quality depth, our defense will be scary good going forward.

Recruiting rankings are dumb. Example- Bama QB jumped over 50 spots to be in the top ten on rivals. It is all a popularity contest.
Dude...the kid threw for like 5,000 yards in one season and had 1-2 int’s. I hate Bama more than the next, but that bump was deserved. Now leave it alone.

@HankHill I may have a resentment?
In all seriousness, I'm kinda disappointed not to get to see him run his system for a whole season against these defenses, kinda gratified that he chickened out, kinda relieved we don't have to prepare for his wild azz this year, kinda cheated that we don't get to see how Pruitt would scheme, kinda relieved because I think he has a resentment too and would likely troll us all year out of left field to detract from his SEC record.
I don’t think it’s all him that he’s not getting one of these sec jobs, i think his quirkiness and him having a couple brutal press conferences have hurt him this year too but that doesn’t mean something could fall through at ark or ole miss or whatever and they give him a call. College football is so territorial that programs kill them selves by wanting “a Michigan man” or “someone that knows the south” etc it’s like they value someone’s upbringing and path more than what they are actually presently doing on the field and god forbid they have the slightest bit of a non football interests or personality that doesn’t “fit” the area.

Muschamp is a prime example of this failing mindset at two different very good jobs.

Update on my dad. He's home. Surgery went well. Feeling some pain but the doc said that was to be expected. They gave him a pain pill before he left the hospital and that helped. He's sitting in his recliner watching SEC Network complaining about the JJ suspension. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

I'm dragging today. Running on about 4 hours sleep. Had to be up at 4:00 to have him there by 5:00.
Glad to hear it! Hope you get some rest and feel better soon.

And what exactly has our QB done this year on top of being ranked higher than him before this last bump? And leave it alone? Lol Yes dad.

Quick two-part question:

1: Do the Vols start the 2020 season ranked in the top 25??

2: If not, will we be ranked post-UNCC so to drum up interest in the OU game??

It stinks not having JJ for the first half of the bowl.

I'm going to take a guess and say this team will come out very fired up with an edge about them because of this though.

This team seems to thrive on the underdog, backs against the wall role.
I wonder how many times they'll show the video during the broadcast?

Yes, leave it alone, glad you know who your dad is. All you had to do was research Bryce Young’s stats and you would have seen why he got the bump. Also, I never said Bailey didn’t deserve a bump, because he does deserve it.

People have been talking a lot about bowl payouts, but it really doesn't make as big of a difference as what many are thinking in terms of what Tennessee actually takes home from the games directly since most of it is put into a SEC pool and split 15 ways (14 teams and the conference):

For the Independence Bowl - Tennessee would take home $1.05 million, plus travel expenses
For the Birmingham and Gator Bowl - UT takes home $1.325 million plus travel expenses
For the Belk, Music City, and Liberty - UT takes home $1.525 million plus travel expenses
For the Texas, Outback, Citrus, NY6 - UT takes home $2.05 million plus travel expenses
For the CFP - UT takes home $4.2 million plus travel expenses

I remember seeing an analysis when UT won the BCS that their payout for the bowls, net of their travel expenses for the team, band, and support staff, was worse than the SEC teams that didn't make a bowl game that year. Gotta love revenue sharing. Probably played in our favor during the Dooley years though so that's good.

I took it the other way: that Leach was getting one of the SEC jobs and used it to lock in a raise. Those schools should have taken him, imo.

Hell, some folks here didn't want to take Pruitt because he was from one state over!
