Yes, if you take every negative view possible I guess you could come up with that conclusion! We will have a shaky QB group:
JG : Inconsistent. Experienced but has days where he looks awfully bad (4-5 games this season including Vandy)
Maurer: Flashed Potential, got hurt and never returned to same level
Shrout: Big arm but big mistakes too. Threw balls so bad that got benched for JG who had gone rouge in the game before.
Hill : Walk-on who was inconsistent enough at his last school to lose the job
Bailey: Highly touted recruit. Looks promising but look at JG. Anything can happen.
We will have a good QB class but to say 'Best in SEC' is a reach. Example, look at Alabama: Taulia (highly rated 4*), Paul Bryant (highly rated 4*), Mac Jones (current starter) , Bryce Young: 5*, #1 Dual threat QB. Few others have good to better situations. FL will have solid starter in Kyle Trask with 5* Emory Jones coming back.
Even if Fromm leaves, GA will have highly rated D'wan Mathis and 3* Upperclassmen Stetson Bennett with commit Carson Beck who is higher rated than Bailey.
We will have to upgrade our QB play a lot ..
Our ILB will be a huge concern too with Henry T as only known starter. We will be relying on Solon Page and JJ Peterson for ILB ..thats not a fun thing to do ...
And you'd be absolutely WRONG. SC produces disproportionately more college prospects and pro players compared to population. The consolidation of schools in SC has yielded a very high quality of play.Every QB benefits in HS when they have great players around them, usually to the tune of championships similar to what Worley and Cordarrelle Patterson did in South Carolina. Worley is considered one of the top10 players to ever play in SC high school history and all that tells me is that SC hs football must suck!
That's not true either. He had a quirky motion but a better arm than Wuerffel and others who were very successful college QB's. It didn't help Worley that he had feet of stone and played on some really, really bad teams.Even with all his accolades, he was not rated that high, 3 star, barely top 750 in his class, mainly because he didn't have the arm strength to play past high school.
Or... vice versa. So I'll go back to my original point. We don't KNOW how he will do or how he will compare to JG, BM, Shrout, or Hill. There is nothing about Bailey's performances that indicate it's them and not him producing.
Who were those receivers? For that matter what was his TD to INT ratio?Same with Maurer, he played in a weak district, he also had 3 or 4 college receivers on his team and produced a boat load of yards, TDs and turnovers. You might say that they weren't D1 guys but how many high schools have any level college WRs?
You seem to have twisted my position. I am NOT saying that BM is a proven or certain success. Only that we know a lot more about how he can or might compete against college competition than HB. There is risk with every recruit ever signed. As for his players being better than everyone else, I don't believe that to be true either as that district is loaded with D1 talent. I think it's a credit to HB in that he performs up to his teammates talent level as opposed to not doing his part. I also think it's a credit to BM as he produced a ton of yards in HS with his college WRs as well, he just didn't produce anything that looked similar to a winning program while playing in a weak district.
LOL... you don't "see" negatives so you assume there aren't any and that he must be better than the other guys? There are examples on both sides of it as you know. I just don't see any negatives in HB while all our other guys had definite negatives they need to correct.
I’ve been thinking the exact same thing (but wasn’t going to say anything). Good postAgree with all this. But I’ll add one thing about Maurer vs Kentucky.....kid hasn’t played in nearly a month, was coming off 2 concussions and it was a cold evening/environment in Lexington....just took him a minute to warm up and get acclimated, especially since our defense couldn’t get off the field and Kentucky had the ball the whole first quarter.
But after the first 2-3 possessions, Maurer played very well, moved us up and down the field a couple times. And of course, he wasn’t given the opportunity to see what he could do in the second half. JG came in and played well, but we only scored 14 points and I’m not convinced for even a second that Maurer couldn’t have done at least as well that night.
How do you figure? You act like the kid does it by himself. As if he has no D1 o line in front of him. As if his receivers have zilch to do with his production. As if his RB isn’t a concern as well for opposing defenses for play action.SINCE Peyton would be the words I used. I'm not comparing him to Peyton, never would, but I'm also not going to discount what Bailey has accomplished in HS, it's really impressive, much more so than what any of our QB recruits did SINCE Manning.
I could care less what his teammates around him do or how good they are. He's done something few others have done and he's not had to do it out of some gimmick throw 70% of the time high school offense. I'm actually excited about the fact that he is already used to great players and playing against great players. I could care less about some kid blowing up the stat books vs weak competition. Most college coaches feel the same exact way.How do you figure? You act like the kid does it by himself. As if he has no D1 o line in front of him. Would you take erik angie season as proof. He was 45% 5 td 7int. And he would be regarded pretty high[VIDEO=]
I've always been a fan of game statistics, I'm a baseball guy so it's been ingrained in my view of sports for some 40+ years. I don't think stats tell the whole picture but they certainly tell a bunch once you take all surrounding factors into account? Cal Ripken Jr hit .276 for his career but played every day through injuries and all. Take away his 100 worst games vs top pitching that he could have sat out had he wanted and he'd be a .320+ hitter and considered the best of all time at the position. If you can show me anywhere in the past where 47%, 2 TDs and 5 ints turned into something great or even won big I might just change my mind on QB statistics.

Funny how you call his competition weak yet Edgewater gave Merietta everything they could handle this year. Did you even know THATS Maurers division that you call weak?I could care less what his teammates around him do or how good they are. He can't because since 2014 there have only been 4 D1 recruits from West Port with Maurer being 1Hey @PulaskiVolFan. Please educate me on who these 3 or 4 college receivers are that Maurer played with. If you can’t name THEM or their college is it safe for everyone to assume you don’t know s*** about Maurer?
Maurers receivers had a total of 0 offers heading into the 2018 season. So I’m curious how he knows so much more than I do.He can't because since 2014 there have only been 4 D1 recruits from West Port with Maurer being 1
I wouldnt pay any attention to him, he's a self proclaimed expert on all things sports, medical, law etc. I only comment on his stuff to get a rise out of him because it's so damn easy and its entertaining to get him to dig his hole deeper. Apparently he doesn't realize how Google works so he continues to spew sh!t. It took me 2 minutes to Google d1 recruits from West Port.Maurers receivers had a total of 0 offers heading into the 2018 season. So I’m curious how he knows so much more than I do.
I swear he and his other 2 amigos just make crap up to downgrade the kid. And he wonders why I call him out?
