Man...two seasons in a row where Pruitt & staff left me thinking "we shoulda won 2 more games" it's going to be exciting moving forward though. I think he's figured things out and really grew as a HC from year 1 to year 2, he continues to make these types of strides and he'll be a very successful coach.

So the 5 loses ended up not being to any 500 or sub 500 teams, Georgia State & BYU both finished 7-5 each losing their last game of the season though. Then obviously Georgia, Florida, and Alabama are all 10+ win teams. I am excited moving forward and hoping the Vandy game was just the start of what I hope is a very impressive career for Gray here at UT.
It will be interesting to see if there is any tweak to Pruitt’s strategy in fall camp next season. He said this year he felt like he put too much on the players early in the year and it made them think too much and play slow. Once he backed off we really started making noise.

Will he decide a Year 3 team should be able to handle more? Or will he take the lesson and hold back and be more incremental in his teaching? Could be the difference between an upset win vs OU or UF.

What’s he gonna do when Keyshawn gets here? What’s he gonna do if Alontae gets moved to Safety?

He’s a tweener too. Limited places you can actually play him.

It’s only going to get more crowded for him.

The point was there wasn't much logic in saying he'd be recruited over, since Pruitt & staff like to develop talent and more time in the system will be the preference moving forward.

I'm not saying Beasley is better than Lawrence, who knows. But speculating our best CB is moved to safety when you've got Theo Jackson, Flowers, Fields, Jaylen, Beasley all on roster and all with at least a year under their belts is not logical. Doesn't mean it won't happen, and it's a good "problem" to have, the secondary should be a very strong group next season and moving forward.

I would project we see Bryce, Taylor as the starters at CB again and Burrell pushing to be the star or 3rd CB in. I think Jaylen and Theo likely start as our safeties with Fields/Lawrence/Beasley and Flowers all pushing them.

You still got Shamburger back too.

Honestly, I'm really saying I don't expect to see a true freshman start in the secondary. Because of the guys returning.

Yeah hopefully someone, or Pruitt himself realizes that ultimately results are king. If you get the results with putting less on the players then why change things up?

I believe that is directly linked to how the staff let's all the players get the same amount of rep's in practice. Even PWO's and Walkon's getting the rep's. And like Pruitt says , "the more you do something the better you gone get at it Aight"

This staff seems to know what they are doing.

I don't want to slight the offense though. They have been pretty good in the 2nd half as well.

Against MSU, when the dawgs scored a TD mid-4th qtr TD, JG answers with a game-wining TD while eating up most of the clock. The UT offense wore down the MSU D late.

When Bama scored its lone offensive TD of the 2nd half, UT answered with a drive of its own down to the Bama 1. Unfortunately, we know how that turned out, but nevertheless, the UT OL was pushing the Bama D down the field in the 4th qtr.p.

Against SC, the UT offense answered SC's last second 1st half score with a score of its own to start the 2nd half and never let up.

Similar to SC, against UK, UT came out with JG to start the 2nd half and immediately swung the game's momentum. Admitted they lost the momentum with the late fumble.

Against Mizzou, in the 3rd qtr when Mizzou blocked the 2nd FG and scored a TD to tie the game, JG and the offense immediately answered with a TD.

Against Vandy, when the dores scored their lone TD early in the 4th qtr, JG and the offense immediately responded with a TD to pretty much put the game away.

And it is obvious that Chaney, with Pruitt's trust, has no problem throwing the ball to keep drives alive late in games when nursing leads rather than 3 straight dive plays and punt. I love their willingness to play to win rather than playing not to lose.

Should’ve included this is in my post game randoms post but guys were lucky Kurott Garland stepped out of the portal and back onto the team. Kid had a very good game last night and had a very solid year overall. Gonna be a staple on the DL rotation the next two years.
A 3 star late addition to Pruitt's first class with other offers from Eastern Kentucky, Coastal Carolina and Tulane that had folks scratching their heads. He's just a RS Freshman. Coaching and development is in good hands with this staff and anyone wanting Tracy Rocker gone is nuts. Hope he gets a raise and extension.

We were one play from 8-4 ATS. That shows you we actually over performed and all factors are baked in including talent, home field advantage, injuries and coaching.

Hope he lands a recruit or two. Can't argue the development at this position but we need to be developing recruits with offers from UGA, Aub, and Bama into All-Americans, not just recruits with no offers into serviceable players.

I think we needed to lose those two games to get where we are today. Forced the team and coaches to learn some tough lessons and we handled it beautifully. This was the most fun I’ve had watching a Tennessee in a while. Just kept getting better and better each week

So here's the thing about the NCAA March Madness vs a playoff in college football.

Say you do let in the Group of 5s, how long before the first matchup? It's usually 2-4 weeks depending on bowl game and conference championships. So Penn State draws Boise State for a chance to win and advance to a chance at the national championship and gets a full 15 extra practices to focus on preparing for them. I mean, you may have an upset but I'd expect most of the powerhouses in the Power 5 to lay the wood.

Because the big difference is other bowl games don't serve a purpose like the playoffs do. Coaches want the extra practices to benefit the team for the next season, but it really won't do much for them in the current season. "Rankings" don't mean much unless they are related to seeding in a championship playoff.

Basketball is just a different beast, it's beautiful and I love it. I love that undersized, less athletic teams can shoot the lights out on a blue blood and knock them out of a tournament. But "win or go home" in a game like football, I'd be shocked to ever see a true underdog upset someone big time.

Why? too much preparation time, too much at stake, too many players for one to make a huge difference. There's also nothing in-game that can separate smaller/less athletic teams from the bigger/more athletic teams like the 3 point shot does in basketball.
When some of these so called smaller teams have had the opportunity in bcs and ny6 bowls they have done well. They won 4 of the 6 games against bcs conference aq teams. Utah beat Pittsburgh and bama. Boise beat Oklahoma and TCU beat Wisconsin. Since the playoffs started they have also shown well in ny6 games winning 3 out of 5. Boise beat Arizona, Houston beat fsu, and UCF beat Auburn. Even the 2 ny6 losses were only by 1 score. Western Michigan by 8 to Wisconsin and UCF by 8 to LSU with a backup qb. Nb4 but those p5 schools weren't motivated blah blah blah.

TCU and Utah have also shown that when a p5 conference gives them a chance they can more than survive the riggers of the terrifying p5 schedule. TCU has won 11 or 12 games 3 times in 8 years since joining the big 12. And has won the big 12 championship. In Utah's 9 years in the pac 12 they have won at least 9 games 5 times and only had 2 losing seasons. They will likely win the pac12 this year and may get a shot in the playoffs. In reality these so called smaller less athletic teams aren't really smaller or less athletic. UCF is just as big on both lines of scrimmage as most p5 schools and has faster skill players than pretty much any school in the country at any level.

Coaches recruit areas mostly not just their position group. Regardless we have 4star Bailey in the boat and looking good for Ox, Baron and Thomas. That would be Four 4star DL in this class. Would that make you feel better about Rocker's recruiting?

I think Tillman will be a big part of the WR corps in our future. I like his speed, hands and height. Going to be a good one.
I agree with you. Hopefully Gibbs lives up to the hype and Palmer continues to get better. We should be just fine at receiver next year.
