Reality of Our Situation

Maybe it is just that I am a realist or maybe even a Debbie Downer. However, I have read many posts over the past couple of weeks that seem to have me feeling we are elite again.

The reality of our situation is this:

We are 7-5; not 10-2 or even 9-3 but a seven win team. Those seven wins are against very bad teams with one of those teams (UAB) not having a single impressive win. On top of that, we got beat by Ga State and BYU!

On getting beat by BYU and Ga State as well as who we actually beat, we do not have a coach of the year coach! We, Tennessee fans, are very fond of two of our receivers this year. However, neither are going to win any awards or go in the first round or even the second of the NFL draft!

We had a record setting RB tonight. He set the record against a typical Vandy team with a losing record! In fact, the previous record was set against a Georgia team.

When we have break out, record setting performances against teams who are ranked and we win those games, then COY honors and All-American statuses can be proclaimed.

On to maintaining the Butch standard in beating lesser quality teams at the end of the season and then beating some over ranked Iowa, Nebraska or whichever the over ranked bowl opponent we have!

You're not going to win many friends, but you're not wrong. We've seen some incremental improvement, but that's about all we can really say now. The good news is we didn't disappear down the stretch again and we now have some extra practices to work with.

And no matter what, it's great to be going to a bowl again!

Lighten up, Francis!!

Damn. Enjoy the outcome. Stop the negativity.

Tennessee should be this. Tennessee should be that.

Tennessee WAS 0-2 and 1-4.

TENNESSEE IS 7-5.

End of discussion. The season is done. Enjoy the IS. Discard the WAS.

OP

You are so FOS. This team has clearly improved and will most likely make even more noise in 2020. Most fans know that we are not elite yet but realize we are making progress. Five consecutive wins to close out the season is nothing to sneeze at. Last year we lost to all of the teams minus Kentucky that we beat during this winning streak. Go watch lifetime while the rest of us watch UT win a bowl game in a few weeks. GBO!

Next year is just that, next year. There will be many rankings and polls etc. regarding every NCAA team; however, they are just well educated guesses, and more than half the time (those starting in top 25 end in top 25) they are right, but 30-40% of the time they are not. The final measure (and only one that really counts) is/will be our win loss numbers over-all, and win loss in the SEC. Every year in every school is a building year, players graduate and new players take their place(s), this is where coaching and recruiting take over-based on the second half of this season, we'll have a chance to move up in our ranking, based on Wins, in the early part of the season. If Pruitt is the "One", we'll stay there.

When Wylo is calling you out for being too negative... it's time to re-evaluate.

The most impressive thing to me is that we did not lose to Vandy, Missouri, SC, or KY. IN order for UT to take that next step, we had to beat the doormats of the SECE. News flash we have been one of the doormats for the past two years. I get what you mean, none of our wins were over good teams but any realistic fan knew this team was not going to do great things this year anyway. We have a real shot to improve our win total to 8 compared to 5 last year and build for the future. Enjoy the win.

I’ll say this. When Bayside used to beat the crap out of Valley every year, they were pretty elite thanks to A.C. Slater.

Basically, this.
We finally beat Muschamp. We finally beat Mizzou after far too long. We beat Vandy after blowing games vs them far too frequently. We won every game in November for the first time in a long time.

Did we look great? No. We should have beaten Missouri and Vanderbilt both by much more. Of course in years' past we blow both leads and end up losing the games.

UAB will probably win CUSA. Miss. State, Kentucky and possibly Missouri will go to a bowl game. South Carolina did defeat Georgia this year.

- nice straw man but no one said we were elite

- we have done a great job of overcoming a bad start and playing winning hard hitting football game every game since UGA and we even played hard and above our head in that game as well as Bama. Definite progress with no giving up as in previous years

- we beat four teams that we were not favored in during that streak including a decent UK, a decent Mizzou, ended the muschamp streak and the Vandy streak and UAB team that may win CUSA. Not elite but a good run for sure and finished 3rd in East and 5th in SEC. much improvement on the last 3 years

- quit obsessing over Ga State. We were flat and overlooked them and didn’t have our entire Defense and lost a close game. BYU we outplayed and gave up a long pass that lost it. It sucked. Move on. You mention it every post. We get it. Those games sucked. That is not now

- you can downplay Jennings (-a top 5 receiver alltime at UT), Callaway and Gray and whomever else you want but UT fans know the talent they possess.

- 8-5 is a good season for this team

- I’m sure you’ll have more negative posts about our fans, coaches and players after we beat Michigan or penn St
