The only thing that I don’t get is JG will make boneheaded decisions like that constantly, yet they leave him in. But when a freshman who’s expected to make mistakes messes up once, he gets yanked. It should be other way around. The experienced junior should know better
Is this real life?It appears that some on here can't recognize qb talent when they see it. If maurer had started this year he would be as good as LSU qb next year. Those who can't see qb talent only look at stats not counting the score. With maurer opposing teams would not stack the Los the way they do with jg and we would have a triple threat, qb run, rb run, and pass downfield.

Agree. But I'm hopeful that this recent breakthrough is permanent for him. He's playing with confidence... or should I say moxie. He's been more decisive with his reads and throws in the past couple of weeks than he ever has.I want the best Qb in spring and fall practices to be the guy. We will see if JG continues to play and practice well.
I won't be disappointed. I like him too.Shrout is here for the education and experience. I could see him transferring once he gets his degree but not before. He's very similar situation to the Trask kid at Florida I feel, plus, women are 37-0, undefeated for all time!
You cannot tell that by looking at a picture. You just can't. And yeah.... I know 6'4" kids built like BM that I know for a fact weigh 200+ lbs.Look at BMs arms in that picture. There is not one defined muscle on his whole upper half save for a small bicep, certainly no tricep or forearm muscles.
And you have no reason at all to say that. It hasn't been his physical ability other than the head/neck injury that has held him back. He's a high risk player who has to be tempered. He was in fact productive but made mistakes.I don't think his frame is too small for the position but his CURRENT size, muscle tone, thickness and strength was too small for him to be very productive this year.
Again... a product of your bias. You could really just use short hand and say you don't like him.I think Pruitt should have had him RS this year as I believe a year of watching, learning and growing, both mentally and physically without any pressure to produce would have been good for him and would have allowed for him to compete, with a clean slate, for the starting QB position next year. Maurer has now played and has a resume for everyone to see and that resume has hurt him more than its helped and his body strength is certainly part of that resume.
They would be in the same spot. Frank's numbers this year were better than Trask is putting up. 76% passing on 9.8 ypa and a 176+ rating before hurt. Beating Trask in every category. The coaches usually know who to play.I won't be disappointed. I like him too.
Trask is interesting. Mullen has been so dead set on Franks that the better QB was on the bench. To me Franks is similar to JG except he hasn't had a breakthrough. He's probably a stud in practice. He had all the physical talent you could ever want.... but it just doesn't click for him. I do not think they're where they are without Trask taking over.
Except when they benched JG of course... then according to you they had no idea what they were doing... or when the previous staff started Dormady who had beaten JG out... Like with pretty much everything else... you filter facts through your predetermined conclusions. They would be in the same spot. Frank's numbers this year were better than Trask is putting up. 76% passing on 9.8 ypa and a 176+ rating before hurt. Beating Trask in every category. The coaches usually know who to play.
I’m going to have to throw the BS flag on this one. He got opportunities this year as a true freshman to play. He will get a shot and will win the job or lose it on his own accord. To say he won’t play if he proves to be the best QB to give us a chance to win is ludicrous.Cause it appears he is not going to be given a chance to play here.
Depends ultimately on what's important to him. He could go to a mid-major or FCS school and start next year if released. He could possibly go to a lower tier P-5 school like Arizona or Kansas and start early for a team unlikely to compete for a championship.Cause it appears he is not going to be given a chance to play here.
JG has ALWAYS had the physical ability to be a very good SEC QB. His issues were always between his ears. If he's resolved that then he UT has a very good QB who can lead the team to wins next fall.IMHO, MAURER is the only upper division SEC quarterback on this roster...Hats off to JG- wghat a turnaround - but, if you had a draft of SEC And by SEC coaches, MAURER would go earlier than JG...MAURER has very live arm, great quick release and
Yeah. 415 passing yards against one of the top pass defenses in the country.
I know you remember watching Guarantano play earlier this season. He looked bad. Plain and simple. Dumb decisions, bad throws, etc. I am more than happy he’s figured it out these past few games, and I hope he comes back and starts next year. But at the beginning of the season, the freshman at QB were moving the ball better when given the opportunity. Was not an idiotic take at all.Your take is idiotic my friend. They leave JG in when he makes a mistake cause he’s earned that effing right to stay in via blood, sweat equity, and preparation, 4 years of it I might add: a freshman an who makes consistent boneheaded mistakes is not gonna get the benefit of the doubt over a 4th year junior with Multiple SEc wins under his belt.
He has the redshirt to use. Whether it’s spent here or somewhere new, it won’t affect his remaining ELIGIBILITY. He’s a confident young man, so unless he’s reading tea leaves that point otherwise he most likely sticks at least another season.Depends ultimately on what's important to him. He could go to a mid-major or FCS school and start next year if released. He could possibly go to a lower tier P-5 school like Arizona or Kansas and start early for a team unlikely to compete for a championship.
A move anywhere other than FCS would likely cost him his RS.
His other option is to stay at UT where he will be coached by Chaney, Martin, and Weinke... about the best he could hope for. He can still take his RS and have 3 years to start or can transfer after graduating.
His decision and that of Shrout will likely come down to how they feel about their relationship with the coaches, what the coaches tell them their prospects at UT are, and how they feel they fit in the locker room with their teammates. MOST of what will determine the decisions of any of them is way beyond our ability to know. You would have to be a close personal friend or mentor. Anyone that close... won't likely betray the kid.
