To be fair, I have no issue with honoring the dead who fought for your state. I’m more against erecting monuments to treason to send a hostile message to black people.

I never knew statues were singling out and attacking blacks.

I heard a good solution to this issue from historian HW Brands.

He suggests leaving monuments up, but clearly labeling when they were erected.

That way they are more clearly viewed as a historic artifact, rather than a current endorsement of what Confederates stood for.

Why not just educate our children instead of whitewashing our past? Why not just tell the truth about the civil war and let the children come to their own conclusions. American history has turned into a cliff notes version that can be summed up in one phrase.... everything sucks in the past.

Anyone with 1/10 of 1% of anything knows those statues were not erected as an homage to racism. Placing a plaque on them isn't necessary if our kids are educated properly.

But I will not support the spirit of the behvior, and I'm smart enough to see that there is a categorical difference between toppling the statue of a despot when your country is teetering on the brink of total chaos, and self important kids going around knocking **** down.

Exactly. SCOTUS got it wrong (of course Lincoln was threatening to arrest them if they ruled against him) that states do not have a right to secede. A union voluntarily joined can be left.

Confederate soldiers were traitors who murdered real Americans and fought for oppression and white supremacy.



Those statues are ahistorical. Not history. They have a bunch of revisionist lies on them and they were all erected decades after the war as monuments to white supremacy.
