Can Rennie step up in Green's absence?

She came in as a good perimeter shooter, so I was hoping she would be able to step right in and fill the perimeter shooting void left by Green but it does not appear she will be able to do that, at lest in the near term. Those of you that know more about her than I do, you believe she will be a factor this season?

I think she will, it will take time, she’s doing a lot of other things imo, she just isn’t scoring yet.

I think she will as well. Freshman stage freight in a new country with highly ranked teammates . She is working hard away from the ball and I would bet Kellie would say she fills the basket up in practice. At times I am screaming shoot the ball and she will pass it off. JMHO as always! SS

I don`t think she can replace Green. The problem i see with Rennie is she plays scared and soft, Some may disagree but that`s what i have seen so far. When she open she passes the ball when she has a layup she try and pass the ball.

No she cannot replace Zay! With confidence which will come she can hit the 3 ball and just a freshman I hope that will come. She was recruited as a shooter and she will I hope.

This extra-long homestand may do wonders for the team. Since there won’t need to be any missed or shortened practices to allow for travel, everyone will have the opportunity to get to a higher level of sustained focus. I imagine it’s going to be a particularly tiring stretch, though, as I’m guessing that this will be a good time to ratchet up expectations just a little bit more, but they’ll be much better for it.

As for Jessie Rennie, I get the feeling that once she has one great game where she knocks down three or four treys, that it’ll be the beginning of something really special.

I like the way she plays doesn't cost the team much with mistakes. She can give us solid minutes off the bench, but the big three and Burrell are needed to do most of the scoring. I think we need to get 130 minutes out of Davis, Horston, Burrell, and Key as a group. Maybe 20 out of Brown and 15 out of KK and hopefully everyone else can give us 35 more minutes of solid play. Just like Barnes when we play the tough teams have to be able to cut the rotation to six or seven very dependable players. These games coming up should allow us to play everyone and get more information about who can be the top subs. We may have to play the starters more against Stetson they are a decent team and then the next couple should be games where starters can play a lot less minutes.

Holly and the admins unknowingly came up with the ideal schedule for this particular team playing under a new coach.

Not to belittle your post with this response, but she will be a factor, now a good or not so good replacement is the question. But a factor she will be. Lets hope she "shines"....

Maybe they did know from the admin side and from Holly's side it would have been just right for her team. The same factors are in place now as they would have been for Holly.

Rennie's 3FG shooting percentage with Bendigo (.369) was solid but, IMO, not good enough to warrant the "3-point specialist" and "sharpshooter" references in some media articles. Still, keeping in mind that she was connecting at that clip from a 3-point line almost 19" farther out than what she's shooting from now, I think we'll see significant improvement as she adjusts to the American game following a long hiatus (almost 2 years) from playing after her knee surgery.

At 5-foot-8, Jessie Rennie realized soon into her Tennessee basketball career that she needed to learn how to add some extra arc to her shot.
So she enlisted the help of the tallest person in the program — 6-6 assistant coach Jon Harper — to help her with that, knowing that while she may not always be shooting over players the size of fellow Lady Volunteers freshmen Tamari Key and Emily Saunders, each of whom measures 6-5, she would need to adjust her shot to be successful in the Southeastern Conference.

"Naturally I wasn't shooting as high, so (Harper) would stand at the 3-point line and I'd shoot over his hand," Rennie said. She also used the shooting gun, which has a high net so she would have to shoot with a higher arc to get the ball over the machine's net.
Australian guard Jessie Rennie a 'savvy' freshman for Lady Vols

Love her personality!

Quite a few demanding road games, but overall the SEC schedule is better. The worst games we have in SEC play are at Ky, Arkansas, SC, and LSU. Home games Miss St and Texas A&M. The rest look winnable but you never know. Hopefully we win the others and split these would be 13 and 3 in the SEC. Home Missouri, Georgia, Ole Miss, Vandy, Alabama, and LSU should be wins. Road Ole Miss, Auburn, Vandy and Florida. Be terribly disappointed if we don't go 11 and 5 with this schedule in the SEC still hoping for 13 and 3.

Seems like a great kid. Good shooters will eventually start making them. Same with UConn freshman Makurat from Poland. Geno said she oh for America so far this season.

I think she is really working on making her defense make difference first. I think she plays pretty good D in my opinion. She has offensive skills. I think she will have a break out soon, on the road after home stand. A lot of players seem to play better on road first.

Yes, for this early part. Maybe not so great later: play AL at home, and then play UConn 3 days later, at UConn. Also, later, play in a stretch SC, MS ST, LSU, TX A&M, and Arkansas. SC, MS ST, and TX A&M currently ranked in top 10.

Other than the UConn game, the rest was decided by the SEC. It was a weak schedule, and it's a shame UT couldn't find better teams willing to play at TBA.

It’s the luck of the draw. Next year, we will have Notre Dame, Stanford, and UConn at TBA, along with South Carolina most likely. That’s a home schedule teams would kill for.
