Dooley was robbed of a huge upset win at LSU by the officials. Butch had several very close upsets just falling short in the last minutes. Now in his second year Pruitt has had his near upswin at Alabama. So far, I don't see any difference between the three.Of our 3 most recent head coaches, which one inherited the least amount of talent in terms of scholarship players, and which one inherited the most amount of talent?
Tough question. There is a discernable difference between talent "on paper” (ie star ratings and such) vs real "go out and play big boy ball" talent. I think the product on the field shows me that Pruitt inherited thje least. I think Dooley second and Butch inherited the most which enabled him to fool is all a few seasons...almost beating Bama in Tuscaloosa and having big leads against Oklahoma and Florida before the wheels came off. Jones almost put on the appearance of a competent coach for a brief period.
Jones did that largely with players his staff recruited rather than players they inherited. It was Dobbs, Hurd, Barnett, and Reeves-Maybin. Jones eventually proved that he wasn't the man for the job, but make no mistake. He inherited a complete disaster. Three players from his first team were drafted. I believe that Cam Sutton was the only other player he inherited that was drafted. It should be said that none of three inherited particularly good teams. My gut says that Dooley inherited the best team since he was the only one to go to a bowl game in year one. Between Jones and Pruitt, I'm inclined to say that Pruitt inherited a more talented team. No one was drafted from his first team, but Kyle Phillips and Shy Tuttle are both making an impact. I also believe that a handful of players he inherited will be drafted this year and next. Of course, he inherited a team coming off the worst season in program history which was the single biggest hurdle for any of the three.Tough question. Yet, if you look back at the historical posts, you'd be amazed at how many so called experts, and real UT Vol fans loved, loved boy butch, and defended him at every turn! These guys are not experts and are Vol Fans, but rather coach worshipers-if he's our coach, they worship, this is how we got where we are today. dooley and boy butch should never have been hired, with all the money we spent (and are still spending) on these two clowns, we could have and should have hired a real Football Coach.Dooley inherited most talent....
Pruitt inherited least talent.....Lyle left him with a 4-8 team that won ZERO SEC games.....worst in UT history
