I disagree with your take on Nkamhoua. I saw a lot of times his effort was just not acceptable. Especially when he gave up a lot of offensive boards tonight from not blocking out. The freshmen in generally look sub par on effort. James once yelled switch bc his defender was running the baseline away from him. No screens were being set, but James was yelling switch.

All that being said, I have zero doubt Coach Barnes will continue to develop these young players. The best thing about all my concerns is we have a great coach that will work to resolve our team weaknesses. GBO

If we can get 25 points and 30 rebounds a game from the trio of Fulkerson, Kent and ORN, I would be happy with that from the interior players and Pons had a hell of a defensive game with 3 blocks as well as the points.

Pons and Fulkerson are excellent rim protectors.
I think 20/20 if probably even a bit optimistic

Solid performance just from the turnover perspective. Teams are coming in hot from the 3 but the defensive pressure wears them down quickly. I don't expect to see Pons hit 3's every night, would like to see more of those driving dunks. Whatever, he looks like he has turned the corner mentally.

Good game overall with pretty much everyone outside of Bowden/Fulkerson settling into new roles offensively. One thing I’d like to see identified in the next couple weeks is determining who the backup PG is going to be. Lemonte did a great job last night, but we can’t expect him to play 39m a game every night.

JMO but unless we get good news from the ncaa I think dancing is 50/50
At best
I just don’t understand this mindset. Everyone knows what we lost from last year. The returning players are transitioning from role players to featured players. We’ve got 4 freshmen and 2 returning guys who didn’t play any meaningful minutes last year. We’ve got a 5* freshman who’s not become comfortable enough yet to produce at his talent level. If you’re saying the way the team looks in the first week of the season won’t make the tourney then maybe you’re right. Barring injuries, I don’t see any chance of CRB not getting these guys to mesh together into a highly competitive group before March.

Kent stroked a beauty up top. Then forced one from the corner. The best part of his game is stepping out beyond the 3PL. He's needed to mix it up in the paint defensively. That will take some time to develop.

Kent has a good stroke but he came out and tried set a screen with that skinny body got called for a foul. it's just hard to be subtle with such a gangly body type, makes it easy on the refs. Hopefully he will get more comfortable in his role, probably need 3 minutes a game from him.

They call a foul on Fulk if he just raises his arms!! Gets really old seeing them call those type fouls...

heard that...we definitely do not need Big Fulk to be fouling out during this season unless we have a 20 point lead with a couple minutes to go...yep, we need him that bad right now...:D

GO BIG ORANGE!

A lot of times the call does look ticky tack but he isn't straight up with both hands. One foul last night he had one hand up and the other in the guys back. That foul is gonna get called even if the offensive guy initiates the contact. And other time he had both hands up but was leaned over just slightly. He's so close to being a really good defender and staying out of foul trouble if he'll just clean up a few of those technical mistakes. imo

Believe it or not that's by design. The practice I was at, depending on ball location, they release certain cuts/rotations as if playing a matchup zone, but then once the ball crosses the breaking point they jump into man. It's designed to disguise their defense early. For the record, I'm not 100% sure which possession you're referring to but just saying it may not have been laziness on JJJ part.

[Edit: I should've said that "could've" been by design.]

You are exactly right, and I saw the same things. Fulk doesn’t realize it as it’s happening, but in film study, he will see those things. Just because you have both arms straight up doesn’t mean you can lean into or approach the offensive player. Stationary means stationary.

Nice win but Gotta have full game of second half effort Saturday. Also need Fulk to stay out of foul trouble.

Good write up
To be fair, 2 of his fouls were questionable imo.
He was very productive in his 17 minutes and brought intangibles not showing in the stats, like hustle and toughness. Good win versus not just a quality team, but a quality program in Murray.
GBO!!

Gotcha, I dont care enough to be tech savvy to gif the play. It was a possession after 10 minute mark. When he did it james picked up no one else and was looking around to see where the open man was. Could be freshmen still learning. Either way, Barnes can fix it. He's good at that and I trust he can do it.

I wasn't able to watch last night but listened to it on the way home. It may have been out of necessity but I am pleasantly surprised at how well Pons seems to be doing as an undersized 4. I am sure there will be some games when teams are able to pound he and Fulky inside but it seems like his athleticism is able to show and he feels more comfortable at that spot. Looks Like ON is relegating Kent to a few minutes a game. Despite some growing pains I think he and JJJ will be a big part of our success this season. On the radio, especially in the second half, it seemed like Barnes only played 6 with JJJ, Lamonte, Pons and Bowden out there the whole time. I could be wrong but I don't think I heard Jalen Johnson or Devonte's name called in the second half. I still think this is a rebuilding year and expect to loose some games as guys find their roles but last night gave me some more optimism then I had previously.

Both freshmen are playing weak right now although both have a lot of talent and believe will get to playing aggressive like we need them to play as the season progresses. Pons has become the player inside so great to see him taking the lead role and bringing it both offensively and defensively.

I believe Johnson played in the 2nd half - he just doesn’t do a lot to get his name called by the announcers

I can understand how and why some people might be a little bit disappointed with JJJ, so far. But, Olivier has been balling out, especially considering his minutes. Yeah, he needs to get more physical and improve on the defensive end of the floor, but I've been really impressed with ON's game. Now, JJJ does look a little lost out there, but I think it's just because he's balking to Turner and Bowden. In fact, I think JJJ may have the same problem, right now, as Bowden seems to have, just has to be more aggressive and be an alpha Dog, instead of just one of the pack. JJJ is a smart kid and has mad skills, he will figure it out, soon. Hell, I'm kinda glad JJJ is struggling a little, just means he will be back to lead all those 5 star freshmen that will be here next year to UTs first Final 4

In the first half I was thinking, well maybe next year. In the second I was thinking we gonna whoop everybody. JJJ is kinda like Pons last yr. His shot just doesn't look good; but I can see he is a stat stuffer. In fact he reminds me of Tyler Smith..............stat stuffer and similar body type. One good thing about JJJ is he will be around for more than one year.
