Yeah even last year there were some games we looked a little shaky and had to rely on it. We’ll lose those games this year. Turner and Bowden need to step up in their new roles. Need to get some plays set up for them.Missing the inside game from LY. And a bevy of leaders who could carry the entire team on his shoulders when required.
Bernard King scored 43 points in his first game as a Vol, Allan Houston averaged 20 points,Seems like most of our 5 star guys take about 3 years to turn into solid college players.. not trying to be a downer but outside of maybe Tobias I can’t think of any 5 stars that came here and made an immediate impact.. of course I’m kind of young so only been watching about 15 years so I’m sure there were some before then.
5 star is supposed to be equivalent to a lottery pick type player. He’s just another guy....at best. Major disappointment since he literally can’t score.
My guess is that at least 2 of our youngsters will be much improved by mid season and will be integral parts of us winning our fair share of games. The defense will come along, most of these kids have never played defense with the intensity that Barnes demands and IMO, they’ll figure it out. I don’t expect much out of this team, other than fight, being competitive and improvement by years end. Anyone expecting anything more is gonna be highly disappointed. If Barnes somehow gets this group yo 20 wins and a tourney appearance, he’ll be a miracle worker. Murray State is by far the better, more confident, more talented team. It ain’t close.
Good observations and good post!I think the biggest things I've seen is:
1) UT doesn't have an inside presence with Fulkerson out.
2) As tall as Kent is he appears to be a true defensive liability. He doesn't even fill space.
3) We have got to get more out of Turner and James.
4) Lamonte doesn't appear as effective on offense when he is the primary ball handler.
5) Pons has improved his shot a lot.
6) Murray State is just shooting the ball well and is playing aggressive.
No it’s not. There are approximately 25-30 five stars per year, and about 20 of them aren’t immediate lottery picks. Just aren’t. Some aren’t lottery picks at all, and some take a couple of years. I would prefer him develop and play another year. It’s how you develop a great team- great talent that stays at least 2 years.
Don’t forget the Kentucky loss to Evansville...I've been really negative in here tonight so I'm going to try and focus on some more positive aspects. Like the fact that so far #20 Washington, who we play this weekend, is struggling with Mt. Saint Mary's, a far inferior team to Murray State. Or the fact #22 Auburn had to make a shot in the final seconds to beat Southern Alabama.
