Yea it’s really ironic actually. These ADs are scared to death to lose these coaches so they put in these crazy buy outs but then the next year they want to fire them when they don’t meet expectations so they are stuck with this huge buyout.
And then there's programs like us that give these contracts without an original justification.

I guess you can make arguments for CBJ giving the appearance and recruiting rankings but what the hell did Dooley ever do/have done to earn a clause? He should have been peeing his pants just for the ridiculous fact of being hired.

And we're not the only ones guilty.

I think Dooley was a knee jerk reaction to losing Kiffin bc of a limited buy out. Dooley made some serious noise in the football circles his first year here. His first recruiting class, basically winning at LSU and making a bowl after the Kiffin thing was a fantastic coaching job.

I wouldn’t consider being paid the remaining of a contract that you earned and both sides agreed to a “handout”.
Just because your agent shook your employer down for the language, does not mean you have earned anything. Most people believe in an honest day's pay for an honest day's work. It is very clear that Butch and almost all other coaches do not believe that at all.

He is working........ he’s basically their ST coach.

He did that beforehand. Buyouts are based on currently inflated value. No performance clause. Otherwise a buyout would have no point.

I'll just say coaches have all gained far too much leverage with all the money floating around these days. It's crazy.
Meanwhile, there are people who think that a scholarship is sufficient compensation for the players who carry almost all the risk.

I can't be the only one that thinks that this hasn't stopped at just kissing before, right? You know some players have...anyway.

That's just....weird.
Some of her hand placements were not at all like my mother's hand placements when she hugged and kissed me. All kinds of wrong on Mehgan's part.

And truth be told, I’m over Baron and Grimes too. Had the chance to be like Cooper and Keshawn and peer recruit all year. Take ownership of this class. But naw.... they’re looking for any excuse whatsoever not to come here. Whatever.
Their backgrounds are a bit different though. Baron grew up in Nashville when Franklin was there, and his big bro went to VT after getting ignored by Butch. Grimes is a Bama legacy I think.

It was not fantastic, LOL. We finished 6-7.

Oh ok that makes more sense. I took your original post wrong. My mistake. I would blame that more on our staff tho tbh. Silent commitments are a fairy tale. They may have done everything they could and he just chose auburn. It happens. But i definitely wouldn’t be banking on any kind of silent commitment.

I know how silent works but he was silent to staff and his coaches and family the day before even. That’s the thing, he looks like a liar and that’s not really what I think he is. Someone in the family however is not playing right and I feel sorry for the kid just like Pappoe. So many parents don’t guide a young kid with school decisions etc. . They make the choice for them and a kid has to go along. Even seen it for high school.

I wouldn’t say butch “earned” that money. The guy was feces
It doesn't matter if he earned it. It was in his contract. Why do you think UT is still paying him? He would take UT to court and win if they stopped paying him. They're on the hook until the end of January 2021.

Things did look bright after season one. Then Bray got hurt, the team quit on Dooley even after Bray came back, leading to the first loss in a generation to UK, Justin Wilcox jumped ship, the replacement was terrible, he didn't recruit a single offensive lineman in the 2012 class, etc.

A Hank take that I actually agree with though...it's not a handout. You shouldn't blame the coach for signing it. Blame the school for offering it and then firing him. It takes 2 to tango.

Just playing devil's advocate, but these coaches go through a lot of crap whether they win or lose. It doesn't matter how much you make, a father doesn't want his kids or family having to go through certain ordeals, especially when you get fired in a very public way.

Sheldon Cooper would be ashamed at the lack of respect for contract law on VN 🤣

Not if only, he seriously did it 5-8 times a game it seemed like which sounds nice because Kamara was AWESOME, one of the best talents to wear orange, but if you run the same play with the same formation and motion over and over it's not going to be effective
If he had gone to him 100 times a game? That would have been MORE.

I think AtlantaVol's post from last night in the Hardy thread should at least be considered in deference to the kid in question.

What's Jay supposed to do when we teach him to honor his father and mother? I think we can say the same thing about Rakim. I'm under the impression that Rakim's mother made the decision on LSU. I think it's just a tough situation for some of these kids. jmo.
Does the player have to be 18 to sign a LOI without his parents?
