Saban sucked in the NFL. So did Pete Carrol. Some people are just better suited for college.

I hope you're referring to Pete Carroll's lone season as the HC for the Jets. Carroll even enjoyed relative success as the HC for New England, winning the East and making the playoffs as a wild card, before getting fired after his 3rd year. He's been one of the best coaches in the NFL since he took over Seattle. Just look at the record, Seattle's defenses, and the SB ring.

Pete Carroll was 27-21 and took the Patriots to the playoffs twice in 3 years there. Let go and went on to dominate at USC, something they've not done since he left.
And in his 3rd home in the NFL he's 96-56 and has 2 super bowl appearances, and one win.

Don't disagree with the point you're making...but Carroll isn't a good example. He's had just 3 sub .500 seasons in the NFL in his 14 year career and an almost 60% winning percentage.

We're 21st in recruiting for 2020 as of right now.

Most of the teams ahead of us make sense....the ones that I puzzle me and I don't like seeing ahead of us are

16 - Miami (5-4 with a first time HC) granted FSU being bad help them, and they are in Florida...still surprised they are this high
17 - North Carolina I guess old Mack Brown is doing big things, just surprised since they've been primarily around 30th every year
18 - FSU (seriously????) is Florida this rich in talent that they can support 3 teams in the top 20 while also having lots of talent poached from out of state schools? They should be falling apart with Willie being awful and now being fired.
20 - Mississippi State how? they are face planting and look more likely to return to a bottom feeder than maintaining the success Mullen managed there
I have no words for how we are struggling in recruiting. Yesterday I was hoping for a 12-15th class because I was assuming Hardy was a Vol. Now? Who knows. Our recruiting is awful right now and there's no way to slice it. I know I know, Georgia state. But the schools above are terrible. We are at least improving and showing progress. There's no excuse for us to be where we are right now. We have to upgrade the recruiting staff.

First year back at RB, and Gray was a huge get. Hodge is a good get as well (although missing most the season hurt his rating).

I've seen Jordan & Ty both play better under YAC than they did under Weinke.

Hodge or Gray are not huge gets. They may be solid players but they are not some elite recruits that we stole from someone. I do think RBs are a dime a dozen for the most part but when your on field coaching isn’t that great your recruiting should be. Cant be lacking in both.

Pete Carroll is one of the best football coaches of all time imo. So hard to win at both levels.

Here's what'll happen this off season.

UT isn't going to "fire" anyone off this staff, but you will most likely see departures. If FSU makes any real sort of push to bring Weinke on even as a lateral move, he's gone. If any team comes after him with an OC gig he probably leaves.

YAC is without a doubt a far better coach than our fanbase realizes, and his name will come up yet again for open positions this off-season. If Norvell leaves Memphis they might even come after him as a potential HC candidate.

Rocker I could see it just coming down to him not wanting what he's offered and moving on. Might also be looked at for NFL jobs, and with him not being a fan of recruiting maybe that's where he goes.

No, but it was pretty damn apparent they were a bad fit for Pruitt from the beginning. We don’t need to be changing staff members like T shirts right now
I’m really fine either way.

It’s funny because everything we’re talking about is all going to come down to like 4 swing games next season.

Having a generational pass rusher makes things easy. We will see if we get him but I’m skeptical that he would be an upgrade to rocker as far as coaching goes
He may not be that good just saying the browns DL isn’t really their issue.

huh. I always thought he was worst than that at NE. Good to know.

Yeah, My mistake. Brain freeze.

Recruiting won’t improve until we start winning. Why get rid of a guy that is clearly a good coach?

The secret sauce to clemson’s Success (other than paying people) is coaching staff continuity. I don’t think more than one or two coaches have left there in 4 years
They have a legit lifer as DC but they have had their fair share of assistants leaving. Clemson has an excellent recruiter and motivator for head coach.

I’m not advocating getting rid of the good position Coach. I’m saying upgrade the recruiting at another position.

Sherrer in this case.

It’s why bill was on the hot seat after year 1 in NE. Dude gets fired from the browns and then sucks worse than Carroll ever did year 1. Then #12 came walking in

Gray won 3 straight Mr. Football awards and had an offer list to match...he also decommitted from Michigan. Top 100 national player, and the #2 rated APB in the entire country... come the hell on Hank, I mean bad takes are your thing, but this is BAAAAAAAD.

Hodge isn't a huge get or someone we stole, I would agree there. But I also wonder how things would have went for his rating had he played a full season and continued racking up numbers.

Random name to throw out there besides Tosh Lupoi while we are discussing DL recruitment, Karl Dunbar. Coached DL for Pruitts 2 years as DC at Bama. Might see if he's still happy in the NFL.

Honestly Carroll would probably have still been in New England had he not followed Bill Parcells (and his SB appearance). Think Kraft didn't have the warm fuzzes for Pete or something he pulled that leash hella fast.

Gray was the 184th ranked player according to composite rankings but either way has he looked like An elite player? No. He’s solid. Don’t think any of his recruits are bad or he is a bad coach. Just think there is room for improvement there. Especially considering how good CMG was. Wish him and Pruitt could’ve worked together.

Not a big fan of discussing coaching changes when the season isn't over, but oh well.

Sherrer is pretty close to Pruitt. I have a hard time seeing Pruitt letting him go. Chaney, Martin, Friend, and Ansley very likely aren't going anywhere. That leaves Rumph, Rocker, Weinke, and Johnson. I'd argue to keep Rumph and Rocker because I think our LB and DL play has been pretty solid. Youth and lack of depth at LB is the issue there, not so much coaching. All JMO.
