The Atlanta Braves

Staff will coach em up. It’ll be ok. Not championship level but enough to keep the train moving in the right direction.

It’s not like the recruiting class will be terrible.

At some point, that’s big part of what it’s gonna take. Coach up what we do have, overachieve a little, and then recruiting should get a little easier.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Orgeron saying some bad words in front of Brown's grandma. Anyway, I'm no Kiffin hater but I've seen no evidence that he's got some magic ability to overcome Auburn's decades-established industry of dirty recruiting. Not to mention that he almost got us put on probation to bring in a class that turned out to be straight up garbage.
I was all on the Kiffin wagon but Marlon would have committed to Phil. He didn’t run like those guys ha

That’s how Auburn gets players and that’s the lane Kiffin ran in. He would beat them at it. I’m pretty confident in that fact. It doesn’t work for everybody, but the guys who find Auburn appealing out of nowhere would have been low hanging fruit for Kiffin and O.

Doesn’t matter how bad we have been we usually get more than our share of the top in state guys. Hasn’t happened with this staff. Bad!

LOL anyway you spin it Pruitt got out recruited guys. That’s not good. Recruiting has been dog s hit before this, obviously a ways to go but so far he is looking up at Butch and Derek Dooley in recruiting.
Not Dooley, but definitely is looking up to Butch in terms of highly-rated guys that he's landed. Of course we know now that Butch was a good recruiter of 4 and 5-star guys who mostly played like 3s if they ever saw the field. If Pruitt it going to take the opposite approach, I'm OK with that.

Also, Niedermeyer appears to be the only guy on the staff who can actually recruit. He's been the lead recruiter on just about every 4 or 5-star guy we've signed.

Every year that we're dogshlt this idea that Tennessee recruits itself becomes less true. You go to Auburn, you're probably going to play on top 10 teams. You go to Tennessee, you might never play in a bowl game, you'll probably have at least two different head coaches, and you probably won't get drafted. I'm surprised anyone picks us at this point.
As bad as we have been we beat Auburn’s ass on the football field just last year. To these kids it’s about money, Auburn cut a check or upped the ante, it’s time we do better in that department

I think getting DWA, Crouch, Wanya, Wright, etc. has shown we are bringing the bags

That's because he ran the program as though getting signing recruits out of the Nashville area was more important than actually winning football games
I see a lot of those players playing on Sunday now too. That wasn’t what kept him from being successful. We are bleeding in state guys that we wanted to Kentucky. Think about that.

This has been a problem for Tennessee for literally ever
Butch was actually very good at it until it became obvious he was going to be fired and he started losing guys like Cade Mays. Remember that 2014 class? He landed 8 of the top 10 recruits in the state.

Remember Charles Mosley and Michael Sawyers from that class? Of course not, they did nothing. Hurd was a bust. Josh Malone was a contributor but a poor fit for his offense. Todd Kelly Jr. wasn't as good as people thought. Jashon Robertson wasn't a good offensive lineman. The only primetime player of the bunch was Derek Barnett, and Rashaan Gaulden had a good career and was a mid-round pick.

The issue was getting production out of them when they were here. Butch was acutely aware that a prime critique of Dooley was that he disregarded in-state talent, and he tried to show early that he could pull it.

I guess we can keep mining coal and hoping it turns into a diamond a la that no star we took yesterday.

lol I’ve seen this movie before, we know how it ends

That's because their program has been a lot better than us lately! They've been to three bowl games in a row!

All you have to do is drive around your own city and look at the shirts people are wearing to know that there's zero pressure for guys to remain in-state. If you're a 17 year old kid who's grown up in Tennessee this year then your home state's football college FB team has been a running joke for your entire life.

That’s some of it, some of it is they get slow played by the staff. All I know is if Pruitt is gonna succeed here he better figure out a way to get top players to stay in state. Not gonna get all of them but he better get more than he is getting.
