Game thread: LADY VOLS VS. ETSU

Only positive for me is that it wasn’t close due to a lack of effort like seasons past. More so a lack of experience. At any given time there were 4 newcomers on the floor at once. Often 3 freshman and 2 sophomores. It’s going to take time for some things to gel. If Horston can stay out of foul trouble she’s our point guard.

A win is a win is a win. No matter how you slice it. Glad the next game is back in Thompson Bowling, that should calm them down a little.

Don’t get me wrong, I hope she proves me wrong. And I know you can’t base it off one game. Not to mention there are years worth of CHW crap to undo. I just don’t think she was the best person to hire for the job.

We had hands and feet and were on the floor. The officiating was awful, but that’s been women’s college basketball the last 4 seasons. High time we adjust a little.

Their OOC is filled with cupcakes. Outside of those 4 teams, the rest are sub-100 RPI teams... probably closer to 200.

I had my sweater pulled up over my face for much of the last three minutes. Clutch free throws by Zaay and that offensive board by Rae at the end were great!

Played defense with our hands away from our body, pushing, grabbing. Many were ticky-tack, but they were there to be called and we didn't make much if any adjustment to what they were calling. Some of the fouls on our bigs were sympathy fouls.

This was really a bad game to start the season on the road. ETSU has one girl that is a super star we couldn't guard her. Glad we won ETSU really brought it down the stretch when we just couldn't score.

Lots to critique.

Kellie needs to utilize time-outs to settle team down when they get shot-happy.

Offensive flow is non-existent at this point.

Lou is a steady presence. Hope it rubs off.

These ladies need to work on shooting every spare moment.

You can change coaches but you can’t change the fact that these players have no discipline! Most are wild and out of control! And tho some will disagree but Massengill is not close to SEC caliber player! Still no half court offense! This team needs a PG bad!

I’m sorry but KJH was not the hire that this team needed. She had proven nothing as a head coach and only got the job because of her ties to CPS and the program. You can flame away on me if you want to, but this is my opinion.

ETSU was pumped to play, had a lot of help from refs. Lady Vols hung on when it seemed momentum had gone against them. First game, will learn from it and get better. Good for them to know they can win a close one. Go Lady Vols!
