Do we have a five way quarterback controversy brewing next year?

I think Simmons is gonna be a good player for us down the road. Another year in the weight room is only gonna help. Hes got great footwork for a big man.

Not sure what's up with Williams. Hoping hes just had troubles adjusting to the SEC and will be able to contribute next year.
I actually meant Simmons as a special player but Williams may also turn into solid DT.

If we were to win out impressively with JG at QB do you think he would really transfer? I just can't see a 3 year SEC starter on an up and coming team leave out. That doesn't mean he's the best QB on the roster either, I just think it would be hard to give all of that up for Rutgers. If another SEC school or big time Power5 wanted him then maybe but I don't see that happening either. Those saying we can't win out with him at the position are wrong I believe but that's all just opinion on both sides.

He has had 2 impressive games in 2 + years. To borrow a RF favorite - He gone

Lol. Not a chance he starts over Maurer as a true freshman if Maurer is healthy. You guys are putting way, way too much stock into Bailey. He’ll very likely redshirt next year imho.
No way he comes to UT if he has to redshirt to Maurer, not a chance imho. I think it's just the opposite, I think he'll come in and win the job and BM will have to decide if he wants to transfer or not as he won't be a happy camper if he doesn't win the job this coming spring. I just don't see any blue chip QBs coming in to sit in today's college environment. As for BM his evaluation as a prospect was good but nothing compared to the blue chippers in his class or this one.

If we win out with him playing QB what will be said then? Lots of ifs there but if we win out and he's the starting QB at the end of the year I can't see him giving that up. Just saying he's gonna transfer because a handful of VN doesn't like him is not a very good reason I believe.

Depends on how this season plays out...and who emerges (if anyone does)

Maurer looks very promising but he actually hasn't played enough to really make the judgement that he indeed is the guy of the future.

Same with Shrout...so far we've seen half a game maybe.

JG might transfer but I think there's a good possibility he'll stay even if he loses his job.

Hill will have to either impress tremendously if Maurer or Shrout does well this season to take them but if they suck it up, he'll be in the mix.

I would like Bailey to sit but if he shows immense talent and fast acclimation then i would say for sure but the situation is similar to Hill's...if no leader emerges then for sure, he'll be in the mix.

He's also had more than 2 good games his career. He's thrown for 4000+ yards with just 9 career interceptions, not many can make that claim in the HISTORY of the SEC.

Spot on take!! Next 4 or 5 games and who produces will play a big role in it. If we lay an egg or 2 to close out the year then there is no doubt HB and Hill will be in the mix.

He's a RS Jr who has never been consistently effective... and mostly ineffective. The OC is forced to gameplan conservative and around JG's weaknesses whenever he plays. He wasn't good his first year. He wasn't much better his second year. When they put more on him to start this year he was flat out bad.

You keep operating under this delusion that he's a good QB. He isn't. It isn't because he's a bad person or hasn't tried. It isn't because he lacks any physical talent. But he's too risk averse and processes information much too slow. Those are fatal flaws in a league with athletes on defense like the SEC.

If you are so cautious that you become ineffective... you can do that. If you primarily throw to wide open receivers standing still or check down... you'll have some nice "stats"... you just won't win many games or score many points. Exactly what we've seen since JG became the starter. He has 4000 yds in 29 games. That's about 139 yds per game.... not many SEC starters can "make that claim" either.

Oh, you never responded to your earlier request for "stats" that embarrassed you.

You should actually read his true evaluation on 247. It’s actually better than Baileys eval.

I think itll be Shrout and Maurer fighting for starting job.

JG goes elsewhere for a fresh start which I hope works out for him.

Bailey redshirts.

Hill makes a nice depth piece.

If JG stays, it will be because of things off the field, not on it, IMO. Friendships, school, et al.

He's not interested in reading anything that proves him wrong. Remember when he kept challenging for "stats".... then ducked for cover when they were provided?

He wants JG to be the starter. Bailey doesn't threaten that. Maurer does. Therefore Maurer isn't any good... and Bailey must be good.

Bailey will redshirt

If Bailey does come, which I don't think he will unless he is guarnteed to start, which I don't see Pruitt doing that. I still look for Bailey to decomit, but hope he doesn't. If he does come I think he redshirts, jg transfers, if he doesn't then maurer or shout one transfers, I hope jg transfers. So I am hoping next year it will be maurer, shrout, and hill competing.

Agree ,for some reason I've never really thought he was coming here .

Why would he throw all of that away? I just don't see it. If he doesn't play much down the stretch then I could understand but I've got a feeling he's going to play a bunch these next 4 games. I think Maurer is the one that will ride his success to another power5 program if HB is as good as advertised as Maurer would have the most to lose if Bailey is the better QB. I think JT rides it out. JG, who knows. It's interesting that's for sure.

Maurer is going to be a great qb, I hope its at ut
