I can't get your all's fear - do you all think kids are not currently paid? If you do accept this fact, then how is this different? Money is money.

I know Bama has perfected the system, but I’m thinking following Saban is a step back from coaching at your hometown Georgia.

What, will they be taxed regressively? I'm quite sure their payments would be as normal income, therefore progressive. More you make, higher % taxed...fair. Unless you mean in TN, the regressive TN sales and Hall (retiree) tax.

I can see where there could be issues and where it could cause improper payments to be more common or easier to hide and abused by boosters.
That said I don't see a problem with what the UCF kid was doing with his you tube channel yet was forced to either not play or stop.
High profile players are already getting benefits like it or not. I know some buddies and myself went to Beale st and ran into a player few years back and he didn't pay for anything all night and pocketed at least 5 c notes just shooting the **** with normal fans.

Wouldn’t be able to stop him. He’d have to sit out a transfer redshirt year, but the days of teams being able to block are over.

Remember UF lost to UK last year and should have again this year. They got dismantled by Mizzou as well last year. UGA lost to USC.

The days of absolute "floormats" are gone, at least for the time. I remember the 90s where we'd walk into UK and VU expecting utter blowouts. One year we actually outscored those 2 teams 117-0.

Not saying we shouldn't be able to return to beating these teams a majority of the time, but I also don't think it's unreasonable to expect 1 loss to the other 4 East teams each year. The gap just isn't what it used to because all the money and SEC success has lifted all boats. We were one of the teams that never needed any of that, so the success and money have only diminished our natural advantage somewhat.

Does anyone think that states with income taxes and has a major college sport will implement exemptions for those college athletes?

I guess ultimately I don’t get how essentially having a happier worker is going to lead to lesser production. It’s actually well proven that happy employees are better workers, student athletes getting to use their likeness to make extra money is something that I think will actually improve the attitudes and improve the relationship with the universities & communities.

Making 60k or so a year indirectly as tuition, room & board, cost of attendance, stipends or whatever program that already exist isn’t much different from the athletes now making an additional few grand if their likeness is used to sell product.

The existing corruption isn’t going away, and there will still be examples of abuse for this new avenue of recruiting that will be created.

School & team obligations as well as player conduct policies will indirectly govern quite a bit of the earning potentials for the players. And quite frankly most of these athletes aren’t going to want to invest much effort or time into maximizing earnings, because it will require work.

Apparently it is already going to be more limited than what was first thought, but if it continues down this road and some players are focusing on making a profit, some players are earning considerably more than others, etc....... It is the perception to the fans of it being more like the pros and less like college. I don't like pro teams and don't want my college team to be anything like a pro team. You are talking about how it will be different as a bottom line for players. We are talking about how we enjoy what is different about college, and this could potentially change that.

And that isn't to say a good running-capable QB isn't optimal in college, but they come in all ethnicities. Hell, Erhlinger is a legit dt qb and shredded UGA. But Texas isn't what they used to be and it's on their whole team. They lost a lot this year and only homers thought they would repeat last year.

Hiring a 2 year HC who had success at Houston in a soft conference isn’t exactly smart...especially since his OC (Major Applewhite) didn’t come in the deal.
