Aggressively taunting women about domestic assault is disgusting. Dude deserved to get fired.
But beyond that, most of the outrage I saw was actually directed at the team rather than the dumbass for going full-on Trump-style FAKE NEWS and accusing the SI reporter of lying about it. If the Astros had just released a statement saying "we're looking into it" and then fired the guy it would have been a much much smaller story.
Because it was completely tone deaf and directed at a female reporter. Let’s pretend that Osuna had assaulted a black man while yelling “I hate n*****s!” and this idiot assistant sought out a black reporter to yell “THAT’S WHY WE TRADED FOR HIM!” as if performance justifies the trade and erases the past.
I’m not in the camp that any player that ever messed up in some fashion, whether it be assault, DUI, whatever.... should be banned from playing the game and making a living, but their team/organization should never celebrate their successes in the faces of those that the player’s prior actions have impacted.
I’m not denying what he did was classless and inappropriate. He crossed the line. And Verc is right that the Astros being dumbasses about it to start made it worse, but I just don’t think that’s a fireable offense (especially when he was probably drunk during a celebration). Like I agree some things are off limits and there are things people should get fired for, but this just doesn’t seem like one. Especially since I haven’t seen anything in his past suggesting he’s acted out before (that could definitely change). I could definitely be wrong.
Sorry for derailing the thread lol
