IMO 90% of JGs problems are with his head. Its been greatly talked about from people who have seen it first hand that he absolutely can't handle any criticism or critic. Not talking about Bobby from Townsend who tweets obscene bashing at him, but I'm talking about critic from coaches and others. I think he has talent, I really do, but he is fragile mentally and still hasnt recovered from failures earlier in the year and it is literally handcuffing him. With that said, you still dont do what he did Saturday night at the GL, ever.
Pruitt said JT is going to get to play Saturday. We just don't know if he starts the game or not. Evidently they are game planning with him this week.

I agree that is exactly the same thought process. And what a fan sees as the objective determines which side of the line you fall on here.

Let’s get real though... Butch was winning 8-9 games and all we could see was missed opportunities
For sure. But the difference, to me, was 9 wins felt like Butch’s ceiling and that he was quickly going to regress (which he did). Harbaugh and Mullen are in a different tier where 8-9 wins feels like their floor. Would we get irritated by that after a while if they weren’t winning conference championships? We sure would. But if you’re asking me which path I would take today, I’d take the 8 win floor instead of the unknown hope.

If JG cannot play the position then Pruitt is doing him a disservice to keep putting the kid out there. I hope Pruitt can understand what he is doing to JG.
After the Bama game and criticism JG has taken I don't know if it's in the kids best interest to put him back on the field unless there is an injury to JT.

The solution is not to ruin ignore but to disallow him starting player threads. There's a second example of the same. But I will add, that happened to me too, but someone mentioned it (prolly to you) and so I unblocked and found Hardy. You'll find out anyway when someone else says they can't find it.
LOL, I was halfway through starting a new thread about him, and was thinking, "why in the hell has no one created this yet?" Then it struck me that I must have the thread creator on ignore.

I, like most, feel OK about the trajectory under Pruitt after the bad start. It *feels* like we’re going to win 5-ish games this year and go into next year feeling like we can win 8 or 9.

That would be good and I would be happy.

HOWEVER:
1) none of that is guaranteed.
2) that best case scenario still isn’t to the level guys like Harbaugh and Mullen reached in Year 1.

So, while we can feel good about the turnaround here and generally optimistic about the future, it’s still not in the tier of the other coaches we’re discussing.

I hope we try both, to be honest. Maybe give Strout 2-3 series and see how he does. It is risky, because if he pulls a Peterman, it can cost us dearly in a one score game. If he is ineffective, give JG a shot and then go with the hot hand, if there is one. If there is not one, go with JJ.

Thanks for this. I am going to look it up.

There may be some stuff out there, but I think Judd mainly shares via phone call on Basilio. Sometimes the details are on Tony’s blog.

He should publish it online though. Some of the detail is amazing. He had one ref as having a tendency to always call at least one “travel” at a certain point every TN game that he officiated. I wish I could remember the exact stat.

Let’s talk Michigan aside from our own level of despair right now...

How much does it stink to be a Michigan fan right now? You spent a fortune to hire who appeared to be a top NFL/College coach who is alumni, and 5 years in, there is no valid hope that they will ever break into the top tier of college football. They are mired in the later Georgia Richt years of good seasons but never threatening to win more. At least UGA had Smart on deck but if you are Michigan, who are you going to get that doesn’t look like a clear step backwards on paper? How much money?

They went all in, got their proven guy, and they are stuck as a perineal 3-4 best team in their conference with not even a sniff of a conference championship to be found.

Winning sure beats losing, but I would almost prefer the unknown hope we’ve been living on over the “this is it” which is good enough to not risk changing.
In a transition year with a new offense. I'd say get a good young mobile QB in there to run and it an see how it goes. Meyer is also gone. Field is gone after next year and Day ain't recruiting like Meyer.

There is some hope there for sure. If they hadn't changed the offense and Meyer was still at osu, then I'd totally agree. I thought LSU would never live again either until they gave up on that crap run heavy stuff and modernized.

I can see this happening.

Mays said of what is important for this class right now, ” the biggest thing is getting them on campus to see a game. I know that we may not win it, but Tennessee fans are the best in the country, and I believe that wholeheartedly. It does not matter who we are playing. It is a crazy atmosphere, and it is hard to not fall in love with it.”
Mays went onto say of what he tells other recruits, “I mean if we are getting beat and the crowd is still into it and crazy, amazing, and supportive, then just imagine what it will be like when we are back on top of things again.”
Mays’s top targets this weekend will include Jay Hardy and Omari Thomas. Two four-star, top 100 defensive linemen that could be plug and play guys if Tennessee signs them.

just remember this saturday if....when..... #2 hits the field.

Does he do it during the post-game show or like on a regularly scheduled show?

Eh...your opinion man. YOU think he is pathetic as a football player and everyone is entitled to disagree with you, it's not a truth to anyone but you (and those who share the same opinion).

Wouldn't say pathetic personally...too strong of a word, he's had a few pathetic moments though.
It is the perfect word. He is the worst, most consistently bad QB I have ever seen at UT, a total soul crushing black hole of hope. If he is not the very definition of a pathetic football player, then I don't know what is.

i almost think you go with JG first. if it goes bad, and you plug 12 in, he goes in with the pressure off if we're already in a bad spot....kinda like Trask did when he went in for Franks against UK. he just played free.....they were already down big, so what else can go wrong, really?

conversely, it provides JG the opportunity at redemption......fast.

maybe he goes and takes advantage of it.........................................................................

No one is going to boo and I think it's ridiculous that so many have chalked it up as guaranteed despite Tennessee fans showing support week in and week out. Not a knock against you it's just that all week every radio show on 99.1 has been lecturing against booing and it's coming from no where reputable.

Yo real talk...LSU looking like geniuses right now. Even if O falls on his face, he's the 30th highest paid HC in football at 4 million a year. 2019 NCAA Salaries

IMO JG would fair much much better if JT were to start the game and play poorly and JG have to replace him. The fans would accept it a whole lot better that way but it is not my expectation that JT does that. If you noticed how the conversation changed for JT in Tuesday and Wednesday's open session reporting.

That is your opinion, though I do agree with it for the most part. You can differentiate between him as a football player and a person. If I was bad at my job, and someone called me a pathetic arse, I would believe you were not just talking about my job.

Anyway, sorry to belabor this. I like you as a poster and we do see eye to eye on a lot of things. Go Vols.

I hate the very sight of him, and I am talking about just as a football player. What he did Saturday destroyed every small speck of goodwill or respect I had left for him.

It would make me happy to never have to see him in a Vol uniform...ever again, but now I will have to watch him destroy what is left of this season as he drags the rest of the team into the abyss with him.

it's been that way on the swain show too.

fans were legitimately pissed saturday and the social media comments about jg....some have been really just awful.

you see enough of that out there and you do wonder how visceral will the reaction be if he takes the field?

i do agree, i think there's been enough talk about it this week that while it may happen, it' probably won't be near as bad as some, myself included, prevously thought it might be......

still...just another another PSA for anyone that hadn't gotten the message yet. :)

Wow...

This is a bit much...are you okay?

Come on, man. I understand Butch left a bad roster but Mullen or Harbaugh would have gotten this team to two straight bowl games minimum.
we tried to hire Mullen. Harbaugh wasn't an option.

see.......context matters.

there's more...if you're interested.
