Under sunny skies and cool temps, Tennessee returned to the practice field Tuesday to continues its preparation for South Carolina.
All eyes were on quarterback Brian Maurer, who has suffered two concussions in the last two weeks. After not practicing Monday, the freshman was mostly an observer during the early period of practice, just watching JT Shrout and Jarrett Guarantano go through read-option and mesh-handoffs. Maurer did participate in routes on air, though, and was solid, aside from his final few attempts. Shrout was hot and cold, with his crispest passes looking better than anyone in the group. Meanwhile, Guarantano had a rough throwing session, throwing a bunch of worm-burners.
Here are some other quick observations from Tuesday’s practice…
Tennessee worked the same offensive line that played all 69 snaps together — Wanya Morris, Trey Smith, Brandon Kennedy, Jerome Carvin and Darnell Wright. Ryan Johnson did take a few reps with the group at right guard, while Jahmir Johnson worked some at left tackle flanked by Smith inside. Freshman guard Jackson Lampley is limited with an undisclosed injury.
On the defensive line, Darel Middleton and Greg Emerson, both dinged up at Alabama, looked fine today. They worked with the 1s alongside Aubrey Solomon. Latrell Bumphus remains limited with a sore hamstring, working with the S&C staff. For the second straight week, Elijah Simmons, who traveled to Alabama, was working with the main defensive lineman and not the scout team.
Jeremy Pruitt began practice observing the outside linebackers. Of note, Jordan Allen looked to be more active and taking more physical reps.
At inside linebacker, Daniel Bituli and Henry To’oto’o went first in line each time, with Quavaris Crouch going behind them.
Theo Jackson was taking the reps, as usual, after Nigel Warrior but it’s clear that Derrick Ansley continues to prep Jaylen McCollough for an increased role.
I can't believe anyone could even think #2 ever plays another snap after the "that was your last bleeping chance" comment by CJP. CJP would run wildcat with Jennings all day (if something happened to Maurer/Shrout) before JG would play.you missed the point.
i don't think JG can get it done either. i'm hoping 18 is ok to go. if not, i'm hoping 12 gets a crash course on how to get a play in on time w/out a delay penalty. if neither of those things happen.......we're in a tough spot.
but if #2 goes out on that field.............and he very well might........with the recruits we're gonna have in this weekend.....we really don't need the boos. we just don't. anybody that's anybody in this business of recruiting has said as much and i don't know why folks aren't paying attention.
JG isn't the answer. he shouldn't see the field.... if he does.........i wont' like it. but i wouldn't boo or whatever. it'll be an awful look for the program, that is actually improving EVERYWHERE else on the field.
the rest of the team, the recruits, other prospects, visitors etc.....need to see this fan base continue to support the rest of the players/coaches.
i'm not sure why some haven't grasped that point yet either.
The headline says or implies that he had a concussion Saturday.Pane, here's the link:
Could Brian Maurer play Saturday after another concussion?
The doctors that he is speaking to are talking in hypotheticals because they are not treating BM. They do not know whether BM had 1,2, or 0 concussions. In my opinion, Ubben wrote this article because a lot of people are wondering what the likelihood that BM plays under the possibilities we consider with the knowledge that we have (he's been taken out of 2 straight games for fear of concussion). He's not trying to smear Pruitt if he plays him on Saturday. The article makes it clear with that Pruitt does not make those decisions. He listens to the medical team.
Correct. But since the 4th quarter of South Carolina game on into this year.. what has our offense Looked like with JG at QB?As usual he wasn’t able to take his team and win the game for them. He’s never going to do that. Not last year never
But last years performance at least shows he was able to manage the offense properly against a Muschamp D. That can win this game this week
i mean it's not out of the question. there's an element of "you may not have a choice" in play here.I can't believe anyone could even think #2 ever plays another snap after the "that was your last bleeping chance" comment by CJP. CJP would run wildcat with Jennings all day (if something happened to Maurer/Shrout) before JG would play.
