We're hearing that Pruitt needs more time. More time to recruit quality players. We're 25th on rivals. Only 14 commits. 11th in the SEC. Honestly, what quality players are going consider us when the product is so bad in year 2? He can't sell his 'vision' when we're worse this year than last, and every other team will easily be able to trash this staff on the trail. Please explain.

recruits want to see the vision. UT has a lot to offer, but the relationship with the staff has to be solid and the gameplan has to be as well. it doesnt always equal wins, but a nice plan has to be in place to land recruits. some will still choose elsewhere due to whats hot right now and proximity, etc..

gonna have to get and develop a few steals!

Why we have a staff full of great recruiters & coaches.

Just need to build quality depth, and it’s not going to be a quick fix because of the record.

Fans need to be patient and really try to understand we have no backups at a lot of key positions.

That’s why you saw the drop off from the 1st half to the 2nd half Saturday.

Georgia was able to sub a 5 star with a 4 star developed upper class-man.

Tennessee had players that couldn’t come off the field.

We are close, just need more dudes of quality, size, experience & speed.

Our expectations of a quick fix winning our share against Bama, Florida, Georgia those types of schools consistently have to be put in check.

This program after Kiffin bolted was so mismanaged from administration down that it put us not only in a hole, but the bottom of that hole.

Pruitt and his staff are putting in GREAT WORK. But people we have been losing to Vandy, Kentucky, SC for a reason. NONE OF THOSE REASONS ARE ON PRUITT & STAFF. OR OUR CURRENT ADMINISTRATION.

Patience as hard as that is. It’s going to just take time.

Probably not many. A really hard sale.

It's a process. Have to stop looking for the quick fix.

You hope to land 1-5 players that are legitimate wants by Bama, UGA, OSU. Probably in state kids to begin with.

Then, with USC, Michigan, A&M, FSU, also not executing at their highest....you have to win a lot of thos battles.

Try to get the program to winning 8, 9 games a year....then start trying to get more steals from Bama, UGA, etc.

Many said the same thing last year and the class wound up pretty good. Just wait.

We arent getting the big dogs we had hoped Golbert, Washington, Smalls, or Sewell as the first two games torpedo'd that from happening.

Now we have to hope we hit on some borderline 4-stars and high 3 stars. Really need skill position players in the worst way.

After this season 80 percent of the players will be Pruitt recruits. I am all for playing as many young guys as you can this season. I like what we have coming back in some positions but WR, DL, and TE and a power running back are huge needs.

So when is NSD again?

For the first time this year, I didn’t see regression against UGA.

What quality players will consider us? The best way to predict is to look at who considered us last year. Wright, Morris, TooToo, Gray are all very solid additions to our program. In fact, TooToo is performing better than any Freshman Linebacker I can ever recall wearing a UT uniform. Part of the unknown is simply trusting the coaches can continue to recruit well and find a couple of stand outs every class. The hardest part for recruiting now compared to year's past is the limit of 25 per class.
He can sell vision still even if our record is worse (which it will be, imo). At some point the vision pitch will lose luster but that doesn't happen in year 3. The recruiters can simply draw attention to the amazing Freshmen and tell the recruit, "that can be you in a few months". Honestly, that is an attractive sell to many.

This is the part that makes it harder for Pruitt vs Saban. Saban loaded up on his classes early on and weeded out the malcontents/less talented. Pruitt has got rid of a few but doesn’t have the #s to fill the class back up with having the 25 limit per class.

Saban also had a team with experience and 1st, 2nd and 3rd round draft pick offensive lineman on it.
Bama had good talent when Saban got that job. Not elite from top to bottom, but that was a talented team he inherited, that was under-coached with Shula.

You have 3 coaches on this team who have been 24/7 National Recruiters of the Year - Pruitt, Tee and Niedermeyer (done last year at UT no less). Somehow, I think they know more than we do about what it takes to get kids here who want to play. Right now, we are low because we dont have many commitments compared to many others. We are in on a lot of top talent but many of the top talent kids may be picking and choosing and seeing how our season goes before they make a verbal. Where we are today on the recruiting trail says nothing on how we will end up this year. As long as recruits see improvement from the freshmen class + open slot playing time, you can bet your tuchus that this staff will haul in another awesome bunch of freshmen by NSD.

Eventually coaching will have to get the most out of what they have, if they dont his tenure here will be short.
Great Post!!! Recruiting is not going to save us. Period. Last year we were 7th in SEC - this year it will be worse - bottom third. Its a chicken/egg situation. As a HC you have to develop players. Once everyone sees you developing players then you will get the great recruits. Due to Pruitt's lack of player development are recruiting is very much slipping away. It's really common sense. What kid wants to go to a team where he can't be developed for the League.
