all things considered, those are pretty good odds....lol....

the most frustrating thing about this whole deal at QB is that JG at no time gave these coaches any indication that his performance would be as bas as it's been so far this season.

and if he would have just performed at a serviceable level, we'd be 3-1 or better right now.......despite any/all coaching malpractice that anyone believes that has happened, at the end of the day, i dont' think anyone really dismisses that notion.

you should be able to count on a RS jr that has done everything you've wanted him to in the off season....
All this is absolutely true. JG has been bad and I’m not defending him.

BUT, there are ways to scheme around a bad QB and still beat BYU and Georgia State. We were woefully unprepared Week 1 and we collapsed in on ourselves in Week 2. Both of those things are coaching issues.

But moving forward, either you get JG in a position/system he can perform in or you throw Maurer and Shrout out there. Neither option is good. Neither option likely makes a difference until November. But that’s where we are right now.

Being 3-1 gets you through the tough October we all knew was coming. Being 1-3 might make this October a death sentence for this team’s buy in, accountability, effort, and honestly, just the ability to go out and have fun.

Looking forward to seeing the Tennessee football Volunteers compete tomorrow. In Pruitt I trust! GBO!

Lets hope so. My gut says ESD will be won’t be good to us. Commits will stay quiet until then, but not sign, or outright jump to another school in December. We were already trying to overcome negative recruiting before Ga St.
Covering all possible angles...

After watching this play from Sky cam. This looks to me like more of a miscommunication than a bad throw. I think we are running a levels concept where i think it’s DWA running a drag in front of Jennings on the inside and Palmer running a deeper in on the outside to occupy or make that Safety pick. Jennings makes a great move against outside leverage to get inside. I think JG thought (or at least the throw placement appeared like it) he was supposed to keep dragging across the middle but Jennings sat down once he beat his man.

Disagree, if he expected him to keep going I wouldnt think the ball would end up on his back shoulder. This is a good illustration of JG's lack of anticipation as much as anything. Ball needs to be on the way out the second JJ is even with that LB, because he clearly has the inside open. Ball needs to be on JJ the second he turns in, which if you watch the timing is the moment JG's 3 step drop completes. Ball should be coming out the second that back leg plants at the end of the drop. Instead there's a little shuffle step, a ball pat and then he over compensates by trying to throw a lazer in there that ends up high and a little behind. It's a little thing, barely a second or so, but those little things make all the difference in the red zone. Here it allows the man who got beat enough time to get back and make the interception. On the season it's why they're 7/14 or so on scoring TDs in the redzone.

meh. ...a lot of coaches would go with the experienced QB....considering your options behind him....

this conversation about the QB is almost a non starter for me cause i just don't think there are any real good options. wanna go with experience, fine, make sense. wanna go with the young guy and see what energy he brings, if he can make plays or affect people around him, fine, makes sense.

i don't think it matters one way or the other in this game. i think we'll see at least 2 qb's play no matter who trots out there to take the first snap.

When you are a 25 point dog at home and your experienced QB has led you to a putrid 1-3 record so far....you know what you do?

You go with hope. Period. No matter what the result. When you KNOW that you can't win with what you have been trottin' out there, you try something else. Why do you think Maurer went in against Florida? The stupid move was not to keep him in.

Week 1 - JG threw 40 passes and had 10 rushing attempts that were basically pass calls that turned into tucks. So we basically called 50 or so pass plays. The RBs had 21 attempts. (Chandler 6)

That game plan was designed to get JG going under the premise we would win the game handily either way. JG had a poor game and the defense was a cluster. The rest is well documented. No excuse for the plan or lack of attention paid to the opponent.

Week 2 - JG threw 28 passes (essentially half the attempts) which tells me against a better team we were already scheming around him. The second half of the game alone was evidence. Chandler had 26 of our 49 carries. Even with a really bad throw that cost us BYUs only TD in regulation we still win the game without a busted coverage and probably by 10 or so points. UT controlled the game until the turnover.

The game plan for BYU just on offense beats Ga St by 2 tds.

I think the BYU game plan was fine and good enough to win the game. Theres absolutely no excuse for the Ga St plan or the way it was carried out.

I don't think Chaney is trying to beat a square peg through a round hole. I honestly don't think after watching JG through out the spring and summer that he felt like he would respond like this. The BYU game (moreso than Ga St.) was the point where he shifted gears. I think he's tried to help JG and nothing to this point has worked. Thus the reason they are giving guys chances that they really didn't want to.
