The worse part is we're playing the best defense in the SEC so you'll come back with a smug "I told you so" attitude, because the truth is none of our QBs are likely to have a good game tomorrow night.

I think if Maurer gets a bit of luck early on and has some success, it will snowball into some greatness. Of course we still lose by 30.

What’s your explanation?
As of early this week I don’t think our coaches new what they were doing. They may have settled on Maurer mid week and that’s when VQ heard about it.

It’s been a pattern of this staff that I thought Chaney would have more of a handle on but it doesn’t appear so.

It’s like they disregard what happens in the games and go by practice performance. And that’s not just at QB - it’s every position. Things like Locklear beginning every week working with the 1’s at RG. The continuous shuffle of defensive linemen and linebackers. I could go on.

One vote for don't.

IMO JG starts. However if I was coach, your looking for some kind of boost of confidence from overall team and even the crowd that they can do something to pull off the upset. An unknown factor. I think starting Maurer a kid with the swagger that he has can potentially juice the rest of the team to open game a lot more than JG. Starting Jg and getting same crap will lead to the here we go again thoughts after one drive. Start Maurer and even if he struggles you can pull a JG off bench and there is hope that maybe the challenge/demotion clicks something in him. I think a mobile QB can give UGA more fits than a pocket guy. Play RPO with Maurer. Roll him out keep him moving.

I think we see both QBs regardless. Doubt we see Shrout unless the other two just totally bomb

If they didn’t know until midweek after a bye then we really do have coaching issues

Unless there is an injury we don’t know about

It’s hard to know what’s real there though. You can’t take 5 minutes of practice for what happens behind closed doors when media leaves. I’ve seen Locklear mention before from open periods then he isn’t starting come game day. I agree that sometimes things seem odd and wish staff would just leave kids alone in spots to get comfortable

It's absolutely amazing that they disregard 30 minutes of game in favour of the many hours of practice. Inconceivable.

We get it. You think they suck.

Anyone who would trot JG out there first series should never, ever, ever be a coach.

you're portraying all of this as if there's only 1 way for it to be interpreted.....that's it "bad".

we don't have enough depth across the roster, so there is a point where you have to make a decision....play they guys you have and get as many ready as you can or play the guys you think are the best at the risk of too many reps, exposing them to injury and being gassed late in games.......

there were no real easy calls on this particular topic. i haven't always agreed with how they've shuffled folks around at different positions, but i understand why they did it.....especially on the O line.

y'all keep saying this is the coaches being dumb, but you still don't realize (or acknowledge) what kind of shape this roster is in top to bottom.

there's not a ton of answers, and the few they do have, they can't play them all the time...they have to find others that can contribute....if nothing else just to spell the other guys....

and at the end of the day, you don't have an answer at QB. that's a big deal....and affects the rest of the offense in a big way.

What's the feeling? Maurer plays significant time this week? I feel like Pruitt is backed into a corner and has to try a different QB. Looking at the 247 composite rankings, this team is top 15 nationally and middle of the pack in the SEC. So its either the QB or the coach draggin us down. Or both.
Sorry if already answered. Hyams said with Brent Hubbs yesterday he had a source saying Mauer would start. Hubbs agreed

No, I get why they do it. It’s just funny that they do it every single week. Locklear starts the week with the 1’s, gets blown off the ball on Saturday, replacement plays better, repeat.

Practice is important, I’m not suggesting it isn’t. But they haven’t regularly come to the correct conclusions about who should play and when - and I would imagine that’s the head coach making the final decision.

Well, I think both things can be true. We’ve got a bad roster that gives the coaches all bad options. And then they seem to go 50/50 on the decisions they make within that context.

After watching this play from Sky cam. This looks to me like more of a miscommunication than a bad throw. I think we are running a levels concept where i think it’s DWA running a drag in front of Jennings on the inside and Palmer running a deeper in on the outside to occupy or make that Safety pick. Jennings makes a great move against outside leverage to get inside. I think JG thought (or at least the throw placement appeared like it) he was supposed to keep dragging across the middle but Jennings sat down once he beat his man.

The proper throw would have been low and to Jennings's right. Window was there he just missed it. Wasn't a difficult throw either.

meh. ...a lot of coaches would go with the experienced QB....considering your options behind him....

this conversation about the QB is almost a non starter for me cause i just don't think there are any real good options. wanna go with experience, fine, make sense. wanna go with the young guy and see what energy he brings, if he can make plays or affect people around him, fine, makes sense.

i don't think it matters one way or the other in this game. i think we'll see at least 2 qb's play no matter who trots out there to take the first snap.

all things considered, those are pretty good odds....lol....

the most frustrating thing about this whole deal at QB is that JG at no time gave these coaches any indication that his performance would be as bas as it's been so far this season.

and if he would have just performed at a serviceable level, we'd be 3-1 or better right now.......despite any/all coaching malpractice that anyone believes that has happened, at the end of the day, i dont' think anyone really dismisses that notion.

you should be able to count on a RS jr that has done everything you've wanted him to in the off season....

It's funny because people always complain about the pot stirrers we have in here and then carry on long drawn out meaningless conversations with them.

They win...
