Pruitt - "Man, you'll have great opportunity at the University of Ten..."CJP has to feel like a kid at Christmas hitting the road on the recruiting trail this week. I’m sure he hates the rules that prevent the head coach from not being able to hit the road recruiting as much as he would like. I still believe in the man let’s get Bailey in here and see what we look like. I guarantee it looks totally different next year.
Edit: yes I know Boomer Sooner will kill us, but I think we can compete next year outside of Bama and UGA
The new norm. Even for good coaches. Why are we any different? So Wilcox, replaces Sonny Dykes, then goes 5-7, 7-6, and now is off to 4-0 start. Dykes went over to SMU and is now 4-0 after going 5-7 in his first season there. Then theres good ol Charlie Strong down at USF. Goes 10-2, 7-6, but is off to 1-2 start this year. Now Fuente went 10-4, 9-4, 6-7, currently 1-2. So not uncommon to see some regression when a new coach takes over, even in yr 2. What is going to hurt Pruitt is, lets say he wins 4 ganes this season...hes looking at 4 guaranteed losses going into next year (Bama, OK, Ga, Fl). Not alot of room for error.
I’m a bit behind so apologies if this has been said but there was an open records data dump of Curry’s communications shortly after he was terminated. If I remember correctly, he never communicated with any potential coach other than Schiano until after Schiano Sunday.here's my theory.
we talked to Mullen at some point prior to Saturday Nov 25th. we supposedly were set to go back to Starkville on Sunday the 26th.
prior to that though, UF got turned down by Kelly, and they finalized with Mullen on the 25th....and he was announced as UF's coach on the 26th.
my biggest issues with this are these:
1. if Mullen was really the "can't take no for an answer", #1 candidate....we should have never left starkville and keep making offers til he says "yes". that's obviously not what happened.
2. we were in Columbus OH on sunday the 26th signing Schiano....if he was the back up plan, we were loacked and loaded and really quck to the trigger to be able to sign him the same day UF signed our #1 guy.
to me, it's probably more likely we were in talks with both guys, and were going to take a "yes" from either one.............whoever got there first.
I don't know about that? I do remember the whole deal about us supposedly going back to Mullen on that Sunday and it being too late.I’m a bit behind so apologies if this has been said but there was an open records data dump of Curry’s communications shortly after he was terminated. If I remember correctly, he never communicated with any potential coach other than Schiano until after Schiano Sunday.

An explanation by Patrick Brown as to why we haven't seen deep jump balls this year or qb regression. Curious your thoughts on how teams have approached it and what counters would be (swing pass? run more?):
"Tennessee isn’t taking many shots downfield because defenses are playing a lot of coverage against them — rushing three or four and dropping seven and eight into coverage. Georgia State did it to take away those big play opportunities, BYU was in Cover 3 all game and Florida wasn’t as aggressive as Grantham usually is. Makes sense, because Guarantano’s numbers against pressure last season were pretty good and opponents are going to look at Tennessee’s receivers as the strength of the offense and say hey we’re not going to let them beat us with their strength. So they are getting zone coverage with safeties over the top daring JG to go through his reads and see the whole field and a lot of times he’s throwing it into coverage, checking it down short or holding onto the ball too long."
