Today in Tennessee football history..........

September 28, 1985........

Bo Jackson and #1 Auburn came to Knoxville to face the Vols in what is my favorite Vol game.
The defense held Bo in check all day and Tony Robinson became a household name with 4 TDs and 259 yrds passing as the Vols dominated Auburn 38-20!

I don’t know if I can name a favorite. It would be between this one, the Sugar Bowl that year, ‘79 Notre Dame and ‘90 Florida.

I was in the group that carried part of the goalposts to the OCI where they remained.

The Vols opened the season with a visit from Maryville. Gene McEver showed why he would become a Hall of Famer by scoring 3 times and the Vols backfield completed 12-17 passes for 212 yrds in the 41-0 victory.

The highly touted Virginia Poly Gobblers (Virginia Tech) visited Knoxville to start the ‘33 season. Early in the contest, All Southern candidate Brezzy Wynn injured his ankle and was lost for the season. Beattie Feathers took over and ran for over 100 yrds and 2TDs. Richard “Diamond Dick” Dorsey returned a kickoff for a touchdown and the defense shutout the Gobblers 27-0.
